Nicknames:
I prefer my people use my given name, Katie. But sometimes they get carried away with all kinds of cutsey names. Thankfully they don't do it when we're out in public.

Likes:
(1) Playing fetch. (2) Treats. (3) Belly rubs.

Pet-Peeves:
People who say, "I'm not a dog person." What does this mean???

Favorite Toy:
I'm equal opportunity when it comes to toys: If you can throw it, I'll retrieve it.

Favorite Food:
When we're training--especially when we're doing something new--I often get hot dogs. Love those! Sometimes I struggle on purpose, too, so I get more. Don't tell!

Favorite Walk:
Again--I'm not too picky. Anywhere outside and off leash works for me. If we can also run into some canine and human friends while we're out, even better.

Best Tricks:
Recently I impressed my people by passing the CGC and TDI tests.

Arrival Story:
I was born on a farm in Aurora NY. Apparently, my siblings and I were a surprise. My people found me through a mutual friend. They were looking for a family dog--a dog you can take walks with, watch TV with, etc. I had slightly different ideas--at least at first: tearing around, chewing, barking, jumping. The usual puppy stuff. You know. Eventually we reached a compromise: They take take me for walks, runs, to agility class, to doggie day care, and keep me in toys and treats. In return, I really enjoy myself.

Bio:
My mother Zoe was a rough-coated collie. We're not sure about my father, but we're betting on the flat-coated retriever in the neighborhood because of how I look and also because I love, love, LOVE to retrieve stuff.

Wanted: tennis ball / Found: 2 Kittens (no mittens)

This morning on my walk with B., I was nosing around some bushes on campus looking for tennis balls, and instead I found two tiny kittens! Normally, I'm happy to chase cats if they're asking for it (see previous journal entries), but these little guys were so small, and they looked kinda scared. I felt a little sorry for them. B. took me home and came back to try to catch them, but they were gone. I sure hope they're okay. B. says we can look for them again tomorrow.

Buster

This afternoon my friends Julia and Luka came over to visit, and they brought a new friend of theirs, Buster, who was really really cool. We played "chase me" and "bitey face" and "be the last one to pee on the spot" and "keep away" (mostly Luka played keep away with *my* ball! but that's okay because she's just a puppy and besides that, I have, like, a million balls). It was kinda rainy, but I was having so much fun I really didn't notice until afterwards when B. was drying me off inside. After all of that running around I had to take a really long nap. Poor B. has been grading papers all weekend (no naps for her), and apparently grading is hard work (even though it looks to me like a lot of sitting around and reading and drinking tea), so I'm going to take her out for a walk later.

Adventures in Agility, cont.

More agility fun last weekend. This time at Springfest, which is like a big carnival with games and, best of all, food EVERYWHERE! I don't know why, but people were dropping tidbits left and right. Maybe they were trying to be nice to dogs like me. Whatever the reason, I sure did enjoy myself.

B. tried to make me do off-side weave poles, just like we practiced in class, but I couldn't remember how, so I just made something up. Then when she asked me to do them again, I barked, "I can't remember! Just let me do them the way I want to!" And everybody laughed. Eventually I did remember, though, and I looked very cool as I weaved through all 12.

After agility, we spent some time with our Therapy Dog friends. I don't really have to do anything there except sit quitely and wait for people to pet me.
