Favorite Walk:
Hasn't been on one yet. Might take him to a dog park on a free weekend.

Sit, shake (both port and starboard), down. He also tries to talk.

Arrival Story:
Customer came into my office on July 10, 2009, and saw the dog pictures on display. She asked if I wanted an English Setter. (I've always loved English Setters, but haven't been owned by one.) I thought she was kidding, but she wasn't. Turns out, they were moving to a house that didn't allow big dogs (then, don't MOVE there!), and they were looking for someone to rescue their 7-year-old tri-color English Setter. They brought him by for a visit the next day, and I took him home to visit Freckles. She was less than thrilled, needless to say. I thought maybe a weekend-long visit would be better for bonding, so I took him home on Friday night. Max and Freckles got along pretty well. Freckles is alpha, (she TRIES to be), and she still had some run-ins with Max. It's been a week, and this evening, Max even tried to play with Freckes, and got down in the puppy play pose (butt up), but Freckles decided she'd have none of that, and went into attack mode. Max is a little worse for the wear; has a little cut above his eyebrow. But, he let me doctor it, and now Frecks is in her crate in a time out. (Just like kids, huh?) UPDATE: It's now July 4th, 2012 (Max's 10th birthday) and he and Freckles are the best of friends. It took a few months for her to warm up to him, but now they're buds. And, since I added a new "Cockalier" to the mix last September, they're more bonded than ever, as Lady (the new kid on the block) tries to boss BOTH Max and Freckles around. Mostly, they just ignore her. It's funny.

I'm going to try to give Max the best home he's ever had. I don't think he was abused or mistreated by his previous owners, but he's behind on all vaccinations, and is in dire need of grooming. So, the best home was not where he came from. Now, I just need to get Freckles reined in. She was like that with Maxie too, for a bit, and she was the new dog in the house at the time. She's just crazy. She may be wearing her muzzle for a while..... ;-)
