Pet-Peeves: Horses! And scary men. And then there's that pesky baby gate in the kitchen...hate that thing.
Favorite Toy: Anything with a squeaker, especially if you can tug it until the stuffing comes out.
Favorite Food: Cheese, Beef-flavored Zukes, Dog biscuits, Hot dogs, Bananas, and whatever you're eating.
Favorite Walk: Anywhere with good smells, especially if there's a car ride involved.
Best Tricks: Keiko learns new tricks all the time - it keeps her out of trouble. So far she's learned sit, down, touch, stay, roll over, bang-bang, which one?, up, off, and shake. Her best, though, is probably "Leave It," because she gets to practice it A LOT.
Arrival Story: Several months after the death of their last dog, my parents looked around on Petfinder and found Joey & Keiko, a bonded pair who've reportedly been together since Keiko was just a little puppy. Their original owners cared for them a lot, but they had to give them up because they were moving - I think there was a housing foreclosure issue in there as well. Anyway, my parents met the two and brought them home just before I myself came home after my graduation from college. Keiko and I fell in love right away.
Bio: Keiko is pretty sure that she's a lap dog, and she'll prove it to you whenever you look like you've settled in for a while. She also seems convinced that she and I are made out of Velcro - that's probably why we're "stuck together" so much of the time!
The Girl is HOME! And she took me to a wonderful place today. It's a place I like very much, and the Girl likes taking me there because I behave better there than other places. It was Petco! And we got to go by ourselves because her car is too small for both me and Joey. I don't mind leaving Joey at home if I get to go with a person. I just don't like it when I have stay by myself without Joey or a person. So I was happy about this!
The only thing I didn't like is that it's very cold and rainy here so I only got to smell out the window for a few minutes before the Girl got too cold. And then there was rain hitting the rear windshield behind me which was noisy.
At Petco we got to pick out all new toys! The Girl always lets me walk along the toy aisle and listen to all the squeakers. After a while I tell her which one I want. So today I picked out a big funny monkey. Then she got me some squeaky tennis balls to see if I will chase them. I don't usually like to chase tennis balls as they're more Joey's toys, but sometimes I will (mostly when I'm around something else that I'm not allowed to chase, like a squirrel or a horse).
The Girl also got something GREAT for Joey and me: Bully Sticks!!! I love this new chewy. I think she was thinking it would take me a long time to chew on the bully stick, but I ate that thing up in about ten minutes. Joey took it out to the garage and took care of it even faster. So I don't think they're going to keep me as busy as the Girl was hoping. But I don't care - I thought it was delicious!
The Girl says I was a very, very good girl at Petco except for right at the end. The checkout lady asked to give me a treat and the Girl said OK, but then the checkout lady gave it to me and she decided to rub my ears and pet me at the same time. I didn't like that, so I gave her a little growl. She jumped back. The Girl apologized and told her I'm a little shy sometimes. I was still good after that, but a little stressed out. No one yelled at me or anything, I think the Girl was just a little disappointed because normally I never growl at women. But I have growled at 2 checkout ladies the last couple of times I've gone in stores. I don't growl at regular women in the store, though. I think I just get stressed out when it's time to leave, maybe.
Overall though, a VERY good day. And now I have things to do inside all day while the freezing rain falls, so hopefully I won't get in trouble tonight.
The Girl is coming to see me TONIGHT. She is driving all the way from California and she will be home for an entire WEEK. When the Girl is here I get to snuggle on her bed at night and practice new tricks. I usually even get to ride in her car and go to the Treat Store! I don't even mind wearing my Santa sweater when she's around.
Everyone says I turn into Crazy Dog when the Girl is around, though. I can't help it - I just get so excited! And sometimes when I get excited I get a bit anxious and start needing my toys to be in their places all the time and all the male humans to stay away (even the ones who are usually my friends). I think that makes sense, but apparently the People don't see the connection.
The other visit that's happening this week is supposed to be from a friend of my People's. They're coming for Thanksgiving and they're bringing a - gulp! - Yorkie with them. I think I would like to meet the Yorkie, because I like small dogs. They don't make me as excited or nervous as big dogs. But my brother Joey HATES it when dogs come over. So I don't know if we will get to meet the Yorkie at all. I might just have to spend the whole visit hanging out with Joey alone. Joey keeps me safe and he's always finding interesting things in the ground, but he doesn't really play much. I don't know if the Yorkie will like to play either, but I wouldn't mind finding out.
Oh well. Maybe when the Girl is here she will take me to see some other dogs. Not the ones that live around here though, because most of them are scary. I have one friend who's a small dog, but he doesn't come over any more because his owners found out he was coming over by himself without their permission. Plus Joey doesn't like him. I would like to play with other dogs, even though I don't really know how, so maybe the Girl will help me make some dog friends. She'll only be here for a week though, so who knows.
Anyway, I need to go now. If I type too long I leave too much dog hair on the keyboard and my People start to get annoyed. Hope the American doggies out there have a good Thanksgiving week!
