   Leave a bone for DUKE

Little Duke, little monster,

Arrival Story:
about two weeks after our 14 year old Tootsie passed away. Our 13 year old son's friends called and said they had found a dog. We put up signs and made reports. After two weeks passed and no one called, we decided he had been sent to us. So, we kept him. Duke

This is my story. One day when I was just a princely pup (I still had my baby teeth) I decided to go on a kingdom search. Now, some of you pups know what I am talking about. Some pups are brought into a family directly from their mom's home and some of us have to wonder the streets to find our kingdom. I was a wonderer. I wondered the streets for awhile until 2 boys found me and took me to another friends house, this is when I new I had found my relm. I could tell there was an empty place in this home that needed me and I went into action. My cute little face and puppy antics were unresistable. I quickly had them under the control of my mighty paw. At first everything was perfect. There was Pepper a big doughboy who ruled the backyard. He was of a mature age and didn't take much notice of me. The people felt I was to small to live in the yard with him, so I was able to make the house my kingdom . Things were grand for about 2 years. I ruled them all with my mighty paw. They did everything I wanted them to do. Some might even say I was spoiled. then, one day they brought home this little white thing. I proteseted my hardest. I growled ,I snapped, I snarled. Nothing worked. They let it stay. So, I did what I do best, I rulled it with my mighty paw. It's name was Gus. I decided he would be ok, after all he was about half my size. I weigh only 11 lbs, so you know he was small. Things were good for a few days until something strange began to happen. He began to grow. He grew and grew and grew. He grew so much that he became a giant, ten times bigger than me. What was I to do. What else, rule him with my mighty paw. And that is what I did. This giant 100 lb beast became my underling. I taught him well. He learned to play gentle with me. I would jump up on the bed or couch so we could fight tooth to tooth without me getting trampled. I would stand at the door and gaurd my kingdom from intruders then send him out to bark and chase them off. We would walk with our mom and his mere presence kept us safe from unleashed invaders. We were a grand pack. (the mature one in the yard did soon leave us for the great kingdom) then one day the mom brought home the red one. This was not a good day. The red one thay called Tuesday was another giant. She didn't come to us small, so I didn't have the chance to train her. I didn't like her at all, but I didn't fight her. I expected Gus to bark, growl, snap and send her away. But he let me down and just let her walk into my kingdom. I decided the best thing to do would be to take my time to controll this 55 lb beast. My plan was to wear her down with an occasional snarl or snap. I would show her who was boss at the dinner bowl. I would dominate her even though she was a giant. I would constantly pester her until she couldn't take it any more and she would leave. Then everything went wrong. I still can't believe what happened. I can't believe the mom didn't immediately show her the door. I will have nightmares forever. She shook me. Yes, I said she shook me. She grabbed me by the neck and shook me like I was a stuffed rabbit. i could have died. I would have died if the mom hadn't stopped her. Much to my suprise the mom didn't send her away. She just made her stop, put her on her side and made her submit to her. She then laid down the law. She told us that this was her queendom and we were all to get along as her subjects. There would be no more snarling and snapping . And, she said she was the boss of the dinner bowl. And most importantly, she said there would be no more shaking allowed or else. Or else what I wonder. Will she send her away? I decided the beat plan of attack would be to lay low. To hand over the rule to the mom. To wait and see what the red one would do next. So I waited, and a strange thing happened. I began to like her. I began to play with her a little. She began to learn how to play with a ten pound king without trampling him. We became friends. But, most importantly of all she began to understand the power of my mighty paw. I am still the king of this kingdom. The mom may think she is our leader, but we four legged ones know the real power is in the paw no matter how small.

We got followed

We got followed. When the mom, Tuesday and I were on our walk we got followed. I wasn't happy. What has gotten into these dogs here in Rialto. First attacked then followed. This little white thing with brown spots and very short legs followed us on our whole 2 mile walk. He followed us all the way home. The mom tried to catch him but she couldn't. He was just to fast. And worse of all, he sniffed me. The nerve of him. Doesn't he know who I am? I growled at him and snapped at him. But, he still followed. He and Tuesday played a little . I did not like it. When we got home and mom tried to catch him he ran off. Thank goodness. I don't know what mom would have done if she caught him. I hope she wasn't thinking about bringing him into my kingdom.

I got shook

What is it with the big dumb dogs that think they have to shake me? I got shook by the big goof next door. Why did she want to kill me? Doesn't she know who I am.
This is what happened. The mom, Gus, Tuesday and I had just come back from taking Gus on his short walk and we were sniffing our front yard, when the big dummies next door came out with their mom to go on their walk. Well, they were off leash. Their mom thought that we were inside already so she let them out without their leashes on. So what do you think the big on socialized goofs did? They attacked us.
Now, Tuesday has meet them before. She is so good with other dogs that the mom had them meet her. The girl Missy did real well, but the boy Chico took some time. He tried to bite her at first then the mom had them walk together and then he did fine. They have even played together a couple of times in the front yard. Gus and I are not the best with other dogs so we haven't ever met them.
So, we are in our yard, they come out before their mom and Missy runs up to attack. Gus jumps out to fight her. He and Missy are tring to go after each others necks. He is so week that not much is happening. Their mom grabs Chico so he doesn't come over. Now ,I am looking pretty cocky because I am a King and I think no one would dare touch me. And she did it, she grabbed me by my neck and shook me. She shook me hard several times. I thought I would die.
Now, I should tell you that this also happened the week before and mom was worried that Gus would hurt his neck fighting them off so she grabbed him and yelled. Their boy had had them out and he came over and grabbed them. Afterwards she thought what could she have done differently.
the mom had a plan if it ever happened again, she would know what to do.
This is what she did. She let Tuesday go. She trusted Tuesday would know what to do. When she let Tuesday go, she ran over to Missy's mom and Chico and sat for a pet. Immediately Missy dropped me and ran back to her mom. Then Tuesday ran back to us. I was ok, not hurt but MAD and a bit frightened. Everthing calmed down the moms got a hold of all the dogs. Mom put Gus in the house, because we have to protect his neck, then we walked over to talk to their mom. My mom didn't want this encounter to end bad because she thought we would always have trouble from then on if it did. As we walked over Tuesday went up to their mom and dropped down and rolled over showing her tummy. My Mom thinks that she was saying, "It is all OK ,this is how you dogs should behave". The moms talked and their mom said she was sorry and would not let them out off leash again. She better not because if it happens again I have a plan. Ha Ha Ha.

I am in a bad mood. The mom took me to the groomer today and the dad picked me up. When mom saw me she made a funny face. That bad you think. You bet ya. They turned me into a chinese crested. Now don't get me wrong the look is great if your a chinese crested. But, I look ridicious. I was cranky when I got home the first the I did was growl at everyone. Just stay away from me. Mom thinks something must have happened, while I was there, to make me so cranky. Not to mention they forgot to give me the cute little charm and strawberry sent she paid extra for. All I have left to say is GRRRRRRRR.
