Arrival Story:
Choppy was the runt of a litter bred by a backyard breeder of fighting dogs. She was small, people & animal friendly- and the penalty for that in her "family" was death. With the help of the girlfriend of the Jerk-In-Question, we ferried Chop away to the safety of a motel in the middle of the night, the night before what was to be her execution by brutal means. Choppy had been so terrorized by her previous owner that she submissively urinated at the sound of a male voice. It took a few months for her to know that my voice was the sound of love & safety instead of the sound of danger. Choppy now sleeps, along with her step-brother Lou, in the king-sized bed with me. She gets cold and hogs the covers, but isn't that the story of all those we love the most?

Bio:
Choppy is a traditional "scary" looking brindle pit. Her original name was Pearl due to a white patch on her chest. When we got her we changed her name. After much deliberation, we chose Choppy- derived from the joke that she was so ugly we had to tie porkchops around her neck so the other dogs would play with her. She may look scary & ugly to those that don't know her, but a few minutes with her and everyone falls in love with her playful spirit of a puppy eager to play and please. When I look into her eyes, all my problems fall away. I know I'm loved completely by this dog.

Surgery

Post-Op TTA

Chop-Chop came through surgery fine. Surgeon opted for TTA once he was in. Apparently they broke a drill bit during surgery (ouch! thank God for anesthesia), but they didn't seem to act too worried about it (cough, cough, malpractice, cough). Actually, it was done at a Community Wellness Clinic at a discount (still more than a functional used car though!), and they do a lot of good there- so we'd never hold an honest mistake against them.
I'm a little concerned with their "light" approach to the pharmacological aspect of her post-op, but I can also understand that if she's feeling too good, she could hurt herself. So, I'll let the Vet do his job without me interfering.
She's eating, her fluid intake is a little less than I'd like, but it's improving day by day. In any event, she's gonna be Okay.
I just wanted to post this quick update, and a thanks to everyone here that's helped with info and emotional support.
Also thanks to the Animal Trustees of Austin & staff.
And thanks to family & friends that let us beg, borrow, and steal from them to get this done.
And thank you Kim- for still treating our "babies" as family- despite... well, you know.
Geeze. this thing reads like an award show that's gone on too long!
Thanks to our Dogster Friends&Family! Sorry for any late responses. Spending most my time on the floor next to Choppy, and I'm still in the stone-age with a desktop computer.

Surgery- and sorry for any lagtime

Chops undergoing semi-emergency surgery for a torn ACL on this Monday the 6th. Theres usually a couple weeks waiting period, but she was in such severe pain they scheduled her first thing Mon morn.
I"m scared to death. She's overweight- Ive had a heck of a time trying to get her weight down. She was most recently on the "pumkin diet" when she tore her ACL. Anyway, obesity ups the risk of general anesthesia.

Anyway, sorry for any delayed replies to messages or pal requests, we've been so busy at the vet, and getting ready for this. No disrespect to anyone.

Thanks, DC (Chops loving Dad)
