 Quick Bio:
Likes: Water!! If its a lake, swimming pool, mud hole, or sprinklers, she'll enjoy herself.

Favorite Toy: The monkey that screams.

Best Tricks: She can dance! Ballet through the sprinklers is her favorite.

Arrival Story: Darla came to Aarf as a puppy and after 4.5 years in a loving home she but was brought back when her owners lost their jobs and had twins. Darla has been in our rescue's care ever since. If you'd like to visit AARF, click here.

Bio: A great size at around 33 lbs, Darla is two dogs -- and we mean that in a good way! Inside, she is the Queen of Calm. She'll snooze at your feet while you read or watch TV. She'll sleep right through the night if you put her dog bed near your bed or out in the hall. She'll chew on her dog toys and stuffed animals, and not on things she shouldn't. And she's quiet.....she doesn't bark in the house.
Outside, Darla is a fun-loving tomboy who acts more like 2ish than her actual age. She loves playing fetch, chasing around with other dogs at the dog park, taking walks, and water -- in any form. Kiddy pool, creek, pond, lake, sprinklers; H 2 0 = D A R L A. She also minds her manners in public places like the dog-friendly Stony Point mall. She'll sit by your feet while you grab a cup of coffee or an ice cream cone and people-watch. She'll go into a store with you and wait patiently, impressing staff and shoppers with her good behavior.
You can't walk anywhere without someone asking about Darla. "She's sooooo CUTE!" (She is.) "Is she a Corgi mix?" (Yep -- typical low-rider with floppy ears, a cute tail, and black & white Boston terrier coloring.) "Is she always this calm and laid back......she doesn't bark and go crazy like some Corgis?" (Yes...she's very quiet and calm; only gets into her crazier Corgi side with cats and small dogs that look like cats.) "She loves to run and play fetch -- are you sure she's 6?" (Yep, the best of both worlds; calm and mellow indoors and a fun-loving. happy-go-lucky playful energetic tomboy in the yard, at the park with other dogs, and in any form of water.)
So why has it been so hard for us to place Darla? She has Addison's disease; it's a very treatable condition (involves the adrenal glands). It won't shorten her life....she just needs regular medication to maintain her otherwise good health. When she takes her meds she is like any other dog; happy and energetic. Dogs 6 and over all always harder to find homes for, so Darla has two things going against her. Please give this sweet girl a chance and consider fostering her (AARF pays for everything she needs) or giving her the forever home that she wants and deserves.
