Arrival Story:
hough Sophie is pretty young, she has lead an eventful life. She was picked up as a stray in rural VA and ended up in a rural shelter. When we brought Sophie from the shelter, she was extremely skinny and she had been obviously mistreated. While waiting for a foster home, Sophie spent a short time in boarding where she escaped! - poor Sophie was so scared, she wouldn't come to anyone. Finally, after 3 weeks of effort, she was found! Sophie is waiting and hoping for her forever home. If you think you can help Sophie, please don't hesitate to contact LoisLHT@yahoo.com. Thank you!

Bio:
Hello all, My name is Sophie. I am a tri-colored Foxhound. I'm about 3 years old and weigh about 55lbs. In case your wondering what a Foxhound is, think of a Beagle only taller and larger. A little history about my breed, we of course are trained to hunt foxes. I'm not much of hunter myself but I do like to chase the chipmunks in my foster parents backyard. Foxhounds are very sweet, kind, and loyal dogs which describes me perfectly. One thing about Foxhounds is we need lots of exercise. So I would not be an ideal apartment dog. I love going for walks. I get very excited when my fosters take me for one. When I'm out walking with my fosters I can say I definitely like to take my time and smell the roses. I have a very strong nose. That is part of being a scent hound. So many smells so little time. I know you humans envy us with our strong nose. At my fosters home I have a large back yard to run around. I love to run. My buddy Macy & I are out in the backyard all the time. We have a lot of different games we like to play. I also have access to a doggie door at my fosters home. Which means I can go out anytime time I want. It's great when my fosters are unable to take me or my room mates for a walk. Plus whenever I feel I need exercise I just take myself out, which is several times a day. Another thing I love doing is going to the dog park. Oh man! I'm in heaven whenever I go. I love running around , meeting and playing with other dogs, and their owners too. One cool thing about myself and Foxhounds in general is we are easy to live with and thrive as a member of a family. Also, Foxhounds do not carry any major genetic disorders. As for myself, I am very strong and very healthy. I'll be honest I was not like that when I arrived at my fosters home. I was at least 15lbs under weight and I had heart worm. But my fosters were great with me and showed a lot of patience in nursing me back to health. I also have to give credit to the veterinary. The doctors were very good. Another reason why I'm strong and healthy is my fosters give me healthy food to eat. I eat a regular diet of Evo dry food. Plus, my fosters will mix in some fresh vegetables in my food such as: carrots, cucumbers, and green beans. I love crunching on baby carrots. Oh yeah I almost forgot. I'm a sucker for cheese too. My fosters sometimes give me as a treat Virbac C.E.T. dental bones. They are good for my teeth. Well I hope you have gotten to know a little more about me and my breed. I have asked me fosters to keep regular updates about me. Thanks for taking the time to read a little bit about me. I hope to meet you soon. Sophie.
