Sun Sign: Quick Bio:
 Birthday: July 4th 2008
Likes: Back rubs from his daddy, grass wiggles

Pet-Peeves: Cats

Favorite Toy: The plastic squeeker from inside his toys

Favorite Food: Caesar's Smoked Bacon with egg, Swiss cheese

Favorite Walk: ANYWHERE!

Best Tricks: He can stand on his back legs for a long time. He really doesn't know any other tricks...YET!

Arrival Story: One evening, a few days before Halloween, I heard a dog barking outside our house. Since my husband didn't really want a dog, and it breaks my heart to take them to the shelter, I just prayed the dog would go next door. The next day about noon, I heard the barking again and since it was really cold, I decided to look out and see what was going on. There, on my front walk was the cutest little 4 pound dog I'd ever seen. I said "Oh, you're too little to be out by yourself in this cold...you come in here..." And that was how Howie stole our hearts. He came in and acted like he'd always lived here. We looked for ads that he was lost, but we really suspect someone dropped him off. That happens every so often, because our house is the only one along this section of our road...people think no one will see them act in such a horrible way.

Bio: Our vet determined that Howie was about 4 months old at the time. We decided to declare that July 4th was his birthday, since he is such a firecracker. Howie got his name from Halloween. My husband suggested we name him something about the holiday, since that is when we got him. I told him there was no way I was naming our dog "Weenie"...somehow, Howie came from our brainstorming session. Since becoming our baby, Howie has had some interesting adventures. He traveled to Owensboro, KY to visit our friend, he spent 6 weeks at his grandma and papa's while we were in Florida. He also met his dog cousin, Daisy and his other dog cousin, Samson. He loves car rides, green peppers, nectarines, apples and cucumbers. His favorite toys are small squeeky ones...sometimes just the squeeker is enough. His favorite treats are those small rawhide bones by Dingo.

One good story about Howie is when I had to put a medicinal cream on his side. The first time I managed to get it on him, he was so mad at me that he went and sat in the dark in the bathroom for half an hour. He finally forgave me.

Wow, things have been crazy around our house lately. My grandma had to have a knee operation and has been in Cleveland in the hospital for a month...although, yesterday, she got to come home.
But, I wanted to tell about my adventures going to see her. At the hospital, they have a great yard where people can go out and look at a HUGE lake. Mom said it is called Lake Erie. There are a lot of big white and gray birds there that I liked to look at...Seagulls they are called...but I really wanted to ask my mom why they aren't called "lakegulls"...Anyway, in order to get to the yard, I had to sneak through the actual hospital.
So my mom put me in my "travel" bag...and we went right through the front door, down the elevator to where grandma was waiting. Mom put my bag in grandma's lap and out through the cafeteria we went. I wanted to stop and get something to eat, but I guess I wasn't really allowed in there.
Once we were outside, I got out of the bag and was able to love and kiss my grandma. I think I made her feel soooooo much better, because she even laughed outloud.
I loved visiting her there, but I am so glad she is now home.
But Papa is still in the nursing home, trying to get stonger so he can come home. So I go there with mom too. On Sunday, I was a little bit naughty there...but I had a good reason.
A man with a mean voice talked to my Papa. He was going to check his sugar, whatever that means...but then I heard my Papa say "ouch!" That is not a good sound...so I thought that man was trying to hurt my Papa...I grabbed his pant leg and tried to make him back up...and he did. But pretty soon, he came back and went right toward Papa again. Didn't he know better? I grabbed his shoe lace this time...In the end, I found out that he was just trying to help Papa..but I still didn't like him or his voice or his attitude...And here's a secret..my mom didn't like him either! So even though I got a lecture about being a bad boy, I was glad I let him know what I thought of him. My mom told me later she only told me I was bad, so that the people at the nursing home would think she was trying to make me behave...but she was glad I told that man off, too!
Make sure you go see your Grandma and Grandpa's if they get sick. You might be just the right medicine for them to feel better!
Love,
Howie

Well, I finally got rested up from all the Christmas activities. I don't know what other families do, but we go to my Grandma's house on Christmas Eve.
When we first got there, we were waiting for my Aunt Nancy and all her children. After they arrived, we put out food for Santa's reindeer..and then went for a car ride to look at all the pretty Christmas lights. My favorite part of the ride was when we saw a man walking his dog and I got to "shout out" a Christmas Greeting to them.
When we got back to my Grandma's house, the first thing I noticed was that all the reindeer food was gone. I couldn't understand that....and then, inside the house, the Christmas tree was completely surrounded by presents. Everyone who stayed at the house when we went for the car ride said that Santa had been there...and we missed him! Boy, was I disappointed...but that only lasted a second. I was too excited about all the presents. I just knew some had to be mine!
And I was right!!! There were quite a few presents that were just for me. I got to open some of them all by myself. No one got mad about how big a mess I was making! I got toys and bones and treats. I liked the BIG cat I got...He's really bigger than I am, but I like wrestling him around and carrying him by his ears and tail. (He's a stuffed cat). The coolest thing I got was from my cousins and my Aunt Nancy and Uncle Adam. They got me a stroller to ride in. Mommy said it is the kind that I can use if I ever get to fly on the airplane...It has a little "house" that comes off the wheels so that I could stay with mom under the seat on the plane. I had the best time getting in and out of that little carrier. My cousin Hailey pushed me all around Grandma's house and I loved it. I was a little bit upset about not getting my picture taken while I was looking so cute and stylish in my new stroller, but all the treats and goodies I got sure made up for that!
So I am hoping Santa sees this and knows that I am very thankful for all my gifts. I want him to come back...but mommy says it will be a whole year before that happens. So in the mean time, "I love you, Santa!"
Till Next Time,
Howie

I was looking through the other dog diaries and found this little quiz on "Squ'mey's" Diary. I am copying it here...I want to make some friends and I hope this will help others get to know me..
1. What color is your collar? I wear a harness, and it is black with a blue bone ID tag. Right now, I have a Christmas scarf and leash! (It makes my mom happy!)
2. What kind of food do you eat? I eat Ceasar's for little dogs. My favorites are the "Sunrise" varieties.
3. What are your favorite treats? I LOVE those little rawhide bones.
4. Do you have a Valentine? I'm just a little boy...and my only Valentine right now is my mommy.
5. Do you get table scraps? Sometimes, but when I went to the doctor for my 1 year check-up, Dr. E said I was getting a little too chubby...I weigh 8.3 now...so I have to be more careful. But I LOVE cheese!
6. What is your favorite toy? I love my squeaky toys...the little ones. I also love my little squeaky tennis balls...just my size. I chewed the squeaker out of all 8 of them! Good times!
7. When is your birthday? No one really knows, since I was abandoned and was adopted by my mom and dad. My doctor's best guess was July, 2008. My parents picked July 4, 2008, since I'm such a firecracker.
8. How often do you eat? I eat once a day, sometimes twice. This seems to suit my little tummy just fine.
9. What is your favorite color? Well, I look good in my favorite team's colors...Blue and Orange...Go Gators! "I'm a Gator-nation Doggie, from my head down to my toenails!"
10. Do you want other dogs to put this quiz in their diaries? You bet. I want to make some doggie friends here on Dogster. Please think about being my friend.
Well, that's me...Just Howie!
