Gotcha Date: June 6th 2009 Pet-Peeves: He doesn't like to be shown his boundaries but we are working on it. Favorite Toy: 2 years later and he still isn't into any toys... Best Tricks: Being Cranky Arrival Story: We went to the Wake County Animal Shelter to sponsor a dog or maybe two. One of our dogs - Andy - got lost a few months ago. We are still checking shelter web sites and so on. We agreed we would adopt another dog only under very specific circumstances. Well, as I said we went to the shelter on June 6th, 2009 - right after I spent 2 hours tracking the wrong stray dog (again) and there he was... Buster, the oldest dog in the shelter. A 10 year old Maltese with vision problems, almost no teeth and thin hair on his back due to a flea allergy. It took us 10 minutes to make the decision. For more, check Buster's blog. ... since the last entry.
When we adopted Buster, we thought to make him comfortable for - probably - the last few months of his life.
I am happy to report that almost 2 years later, Buster is still around and as cranky as ever.
Yeah, he sleeps a lot and sometimes we have to double check to make sure he is still breathing.
As I mentioned, B is a cranky one. He got very angry the other day and unfortunately we had a casualty. I don't think the oven mitt will recover fully.
Everything else is the same. B eats, drinks, sleeps, gets cranky, tries to eat the groomer, the vet, gets the zooms, huffs at us, scratches at the bathroom door in the morning to make sure we hurry up to feed him.
Lately he manages to take his blanket with him when he walks through the house. The blanket is draped over his shoulders while he walks down the hallway. Hence the new nick name: "Elvis"...
I am not sure but since Buster is on blood pressure meds, he gets the zooms on regular basis. He just runs back and forth. When I walk in the general direction of the kitchen, he will be there before me and come right back. What a difference between now and beginning of this month. We thought all he does is sleeping...
Today was the day... Buster went to see the Vet. First of all, he had to get his anal glands cleaned. Buster was not a happy camper. He was growling like a 70 pound dog. Luckily, it was over quickly.
Also, based on our discussions here at home, we decided to address Buster's other health issues. The first is his heart. X-rays were taken (with Buster muzzled - he still threw a fit). It turned out that the left side of his heart is enlarged and he has a leaky valve. We got blood pressure medicine for him and will go back in a few weeks to take care of his teeth.
