Arrival Story:
I was unemployed and spending 1/2 my time online job hunting and 1/2 my time pretending to be job hunting but really visiting doggie rescue sites. I saw Opal's photo on petfinders.com. Flattened out like a pancake, short little legs barely stretching up to her face, big, brown eyes gazing right up at the camera, Opal captured my heart right then and there. Only months earlier, on Christmas Eve, she and her siblings had been dropped off in a box in front of the pound in Murphys, California. Because the puppies were so young, a wonderful woman named Amy, of the Calaveras County Humane Society, was called to rescue them. She drove to the pound and took them home to foster them. When I contacted her about Opal, she told me that Opal had already been adopted. I was heartbroken, because I knew that the Snoot was really the only one for me... but a few days later, I got a call from Amy. The adoption had fallen through because her prospective parents couldn't even seem to find time to pick her up. Amy figured, if this was how important Opal was to them, she didn't want them having her. I had to convince Opal's dad that she was worth the 3-hour shlep to Murphy's, because he was convinced that we could find a dog closer to home. But he sensed pretty quickly that there was only one Opal... and the rest, as they say, is history.

Bio:
Rumor has it that our piglet is part black lab and part dachsund, but she could really be anything... she does have webbed feet, so she's probably part duck.
