First, let me say that I am SOOOOOOO happy that my mom is back from her business trip! I kept jumping up and kissing her when she came home. Then I got my ducky and did a little parade for her as I honked it. HONK HONK HONK HONK!! Can ya tell I missed you mom???!!!
Anyway, she told me she had an early birthday present for me but she couldn't give it to me until the rain stopped. So today was a nice day and we went out side. She set up this long blue thing in the yard. It looks like a bigger version of the thing the cats run and play in (that I like to nudge.) I think she called it a tunnel. Mom had a whole bunch of treats and was trying to entice me & Josey to walk thru it. Josey went thru no problem. He was so excited! He kept running in thru it and mom said "good boy!!" But not me. I decided I would just walk around it. Besides, Josey was making me nervous with all his bouncing around. Finally mom put Josey in the house. After alot of coaxing and treats, I sssssssssssllllllllllllllowly walked thru it. Mom got really excited then and told me how good I was. She's kinda weird.
Then mom let Josey back out and tried something else. It was like these 2 sticks holding up another stick. Mom said "over" and Josey jumped over the stick. My turn - "Over" so I walked to it....one leg up and over. The next leg up and over. Ok mom, I'm over! But no, mom said bring the other 2 legs over it too. So I tried, but midway thru I knocked the stick down. Mom said I was a good girl. Then Josey was really hyper so she had him run thru the tunnel and JUMP over the stick. Humph...I don't really get the fun in all this....
Well, I don't know about this present, I think I'd rather have a toy that squeaks...but it was nice hanging out with mom! She said we'll do more another day.

I just found out that my mom is leaving me for 3 days this week!!! Can't believe she's doing this to me....said something about flying to Dallas for work. HRMPH! Is work more important than me?? Mom is sad to be leaving me, she looks all depressed and has a whole anxious vibe about her. I don't like it....not one bit. When she gets anxious it makes ME get anxious...not good. Maybe I can fit in her suitcase?
And dad has to work those days too so we're gonna be stuck inside most of the time - yucko!! I know he'll take us for our walk before he goes, but it will be a long day for us :(
Mom tried to cheer me up by telling me that she'll be back on Friday and my early birthday present should be there then too. What's she up to?????

What a fun day we had! Mom & dad took us to the park and we hiked around the lake on a trail. There were SO many different smells there! Then we walked by the shore of the lake and there were all these funny things all lined up in a row. I smelled them & they smelled kinda fishy. Mom said they were boats.
Then we walked along the edge of the water and we saw little fishies swimming around. We wanted to chase them but Dad said no, not here. Soon we passed a little boy & his grandpop. They had sticks in the water & soon the little boy caught a fishy!!! I tried to give the grandpop a kiss on the back of his neck as I walked by but mom stopped him.
Finally we got to a spot where we could swim! Dad threw a stick in the water & Josey swam out to get it. I got really excited & followed him and I was making a funny grunting sound as a swam!
We had a lot of fun in the lake for quite awhile. Then we headed home. My eyes closed almost as soon as I got in the back seat!!! I was exhausted, but it sure was a fun day!!!

1 pint Hydrogen Peroxide (3%)
1/4 Cup Baking Soda
1-2 tsp. liquid detergent (softsoap or ivory preferred)
Mix all ingredients in a large pail. Apply to your dry dog. (Do NOT wet dog first!) Be careful to avoid eye area - for the face I lightly dampen an old rag & gently rub. Let set for 5 minutes.
Rinse with tepid water. Repeat if needed.
Discard any unused mixture - does not store well.
Big thanks to The Bark magazine & Hazleton Animal Shelter's newsletter for both publishing this recipe. It worked extremely well. Way better than that old tomato juice stuff -blech!

This morning our dad got up to get ready for work at 4:30 and let us out to take care of our business. Wouldn't you know there was a rotten ol' skunk in the yard. What's a doggie to do but chase it out of OUR yard!
Pwew! skunkies are not fun like squirrelies are!! I got hit right in the chest. Josey was behind me so he didn't get it as bad. But then he puked from the smell.
Dad was all frantic and had to wake up mom. We were so happy that she had a magic skunk odor-remover recipe. If anydog needs the recipe, just ask mom. It really worked!!! She sponged us down while dad held me in place. I didn't like it, but it started to help. Then she rinsed us with the hose...brrr. Glad it's not winter!
Then we thought we were done. But no, mom had a warm bath for us in the house.
Now we're all fluffy & sweet smelling again. But we're all dog tired! Poor dad had to go in to work. The rest of us will be taking a nap!!!
