He was taught virtually nothing in the puppy mill, but he is very intelligent and learns quickly with a gentle and patient hand

Arrival Story:
In May I went with my breed club rescue to a puppymill auction to rescue 3 Tibetan Spaniels. We got them, but while we were there this sad little Sheltie was put on the table. Not even the millers wanted him and I finally asked the gentleman that was helping us bid to get him for me. I got him for $25. I could see that his right nostril was torn up and he was filthy. When I got him back to the van I found he only had half a tail. He smelled so bad and the trip from Missouri back to KY was hard to take! It took 3 baths and a deep conditioner to get the smell and dead coat out. When he was clean he turned out to be a lovely dog. While I dried him I found many more scars. He was very thin and from all the old injuries I'd say he was competing for his food. His toes were all broken down from living on wire his whole life. He is missing several teeth as well. He didn't even have a name. I named him Donnie. There are pictures of him before and after he got cleaned up.

Bio:
The bodily injuries are all healed, but his injured physche will take the longest to heal. After only a month he has made a ton of progress. He now plays with the other dogs and raids the toy basket. He comes up for attention and affection. He also now enjoys being a house dog. He did none of this when I brought him home. He now has the happy ending he was looking for! He has a new home!

A special dog:
He's been neutered, heartworm negative, brucellosis tested negative, & wormed. He does need a dental for the teeth he has left, but they are sound and just need a cleaning. He gets along great with other dogs and cats. I don't think he would do well with small children as he's afraid of sudden movement. He's crate trained, lead broke, & house broke. I would love to find a patient person(s) to give Donnie a permanent and loving home. He really is a diamond in the rough.
