Gotcha Date: June 13th 2009 Birthday: April 24th 2009 Likes: Being held and cuddled, Beggin Strips, ice cream, sleeping in our beds, car rides, chasing the outdoor cats, barking at squirrels and licking us in the face. Pet-Peeves: Doesn't like loud noises, the vacuum, anything he is unsure of, or being left alone. Favorite Toy: His tug and squeak buddie dog (it has six squeakers!), and pretty much anything that squeaks or makes noise. Favorite Food: Chef Michael's Smoked Turkey, Purina Puppy Chow, Cesar T-bone steak, Beggin Strips, Turkey and chicken. Favorite Walk: Around our fenced in back yard and the park. Best Tricks: Sleeping, Whining to get what he wants, retrieving a ball, standing up to your legs to get you to hold him, going to get his Buddie Dog when you ask him where it is. Arrival Story: We bought Petey from a friend of a friend. He was living in very poor conditions, but was too young to come home with us when we found out about him. We waited four long weeks and Petey came to live with us on Saturday, June 13, 2009. He was covered in fleas and we worked two flea combs through him for over two hours and got every single one. We also think he has tape worms and has sores along his necks from the many flea bites. He goes into the vet first thing Monday to get a full exam. He is sleeping and eating well now without all of the fleas biting him. Petey's mother is half Pug, half Boston Terrier. Petey's dad is a pure bred Pug. Petey is 3/4 Pug, 1/4 Boston Terrier. After his first exam and his first set of shots, Petey was treated for fleas, worms and ear mites. Right now, he is doing great! Bio: He is very quiet, but already following us around. He did very well in his crate the first night, even during a thunder storm. He eliminated in a litter box we made up for him, consisting of newspaper and grass. We take him out every hour and he always "goes" without any problems. He is not even eight weeks old yet!
Update: Petey is almost six months old now and far from quiet. He is very active, chews on almost everything and loves to get in trouble. We couldn't ask for anything better!
Update: At almost nine months, Petey is the "fun" in our lives. He now hates his crate and lies on his big fluffy pillow on Grandma mom's bed. He loves to chew on everything and loves being the center of attention. He is very smart and loves to bark at anything that moves when outdoors. We all love him to pieces!
At 11 months, Petey is quickly learning. He loves walks in the parks, but still hates his harness and leash. He loves barking at squirrels, and greeting people at the front door. He loves being outside and just makes us all laugh.
Update: Petey is almost a year old, on April 24th, and he is growing well and having a great time. He hasn't had an accident in the house in a LONG time. He loves kids and loves getting attention. He brings us his favorite toy (his Buddie Dog) when he wants to play, or he wants to go to sleep. He loves barking at the goats behind our house, chewing on bones, having someone chase him, and he is playing more outdoors now that the weather is getting warmer. He still has a problem with chewing on shoes, which we dislike, but otherwise he is a constant joy!! Honors: I was Chosen Diary of the Day on July 20, 2009! I was chosen as one of the Diary Picks on January 15, 2010, January 17, 2010 and April 26, 2011
Today is my Gotcha Day. I have officially owned my family for two years now. And let me tell you, it has been good. A lot better than where I was living. I had fleas, ear mites, worms, sores from fleas... you name it. I am living the good life now, and my family is always telling me what "a good dog I am", or "Petey, you are so smart". I am very loved!! I get Chef Michael's food, lots of treats, car rides, I sleep with Grandma or Tammy, and always get a bit of table food on Sundays. Grandma sometimes will buy me a McDouble at McDonald's on Saturday afternoons. I get regular doctor visits, worm pills to prevent those nasty worms, flea medication, baths and grooms, toys (although I will never give up my Buddie Dog).. I get it all!! Isn't it wonderful to be loved?! Thank you to all of my Dogster friends who have wished me a Happy Gotcha Day today!
This morning I run to jump on Auntie's bed to wake her up and I get a lot of hugs and wishes for a Happy Birthday!! Auntie keeps saying, "Petey, it's your birthday!!" I am not really sure what that means, but it has to mean something good. We wait around until 11:30 a.m., and the turkey smell coming from the oven smells heavenly. Finally, Auntie Tabitha and Pippin comes over and Pippin and I get a small dish of turkey breast. After our Easter dinner, Pippin and I get to go through our Easter baskets. I get Easter cards, and then from Grandma I get beef jerky, Cesar snacks and beef and cheese Jack links. From Auntie Tabitha and Pippin, I get beef jerky, a stuffed dog with Bunny Ears (which I immediately chop off his nose), and Denta Stix. From Auntie, I get cowboy steaks, busy rollhide bones and Big Blast bones. We get to go to Sonic to get drinks and then a ride through the park. Once we get home, I get to open birthday gifts. I do real well at opening my own gifts, getting pieces of birthday paper and ripping it off with my teeth. I have so much fun opening my gifts. From Auntie, I get a case of Chef Michael's dog food, Peanut Butter and Jerky treats, chicken stix, a lion toy, a loofa dog, a giraffe squeaker, chewnola bones and a big bag of Beggin Strips. From Auntie Tabitha and Pippin, I get a case of Chef Michael's food and a sock monkey. From Grandma, I get a case of Chef Michael's food, a skunk toy, and dingo sticks. And, from my good friends from Hawaii, Peanut and Lovey, I get a stuffed Pug dog wearing a birthday hat and some plastic eggs with doggie treats inside. I loved the treats. Thank you so much, Peanut and Lovey. And, a special thank you to all of my Dogster friends who sent me birthday rosettes, paw mail and birthday wishes. Later, we get cake and ice cream. Auntie Tabitha took a lot of pictures too, so maybe I can up load those to my page later. Auntie Tabitha even gives us an Easter Egg Hunt and I do so well at finding those eggs, even if we did have to hide/find them in the house!
I hope everyone had a good day like I did!!
Yesterday we went to Auntie Rebecca's house for Cousin Garen's Birthday party. I got so excited when Doggie Cousins, Sadie and Bo came out to greet us. The best part is when Auntie did not put a harness or leash on me or Pippin. Auntie Rebecca lives out in the country and has a huge yard, so Pippin and I got to run around all day. Of course, I got into trouble a couple of times for getting too close to the road. And, then, one time, as I was coming back, Sadie and Bo must have thought I was a stray dog coming into their yard, because both of them took after me, growling and nipping. I ran to Auntie, and Sadie and Bo got into trouble and I got in the car for awhile. Uncle Tim cooked on the grill and Grandma shared her chicken and steak with me and I got a taste of Root Beer when I spilled Grandma's cup all over the sidewalk. Cousins Hunter and Garen rode on their four wheeler and Pippin and I had to make sure to stay out of the way. I guess I kind of got into trouble in the house too, because I grabbed Auntie Rebecca's Ty Bunny Rabbit and I had to be chased down. Then I spilled a basket full of plastic eggs a couple of times. I can't really be blamed for that though, because those eggs looked like soccer balls, foot balls, and baseballs, and I just thought they were something to play with! Pippin and I had a great time though and slept all the way home. Now onto Easter and my Birthday party!!
