Our Experience

As we slowly say goodbye to winter in the mountains, I tested this vest on a chilly spring day and went into the woods where the snow was hanging on. Bruce, our Australian Cattle Dog, has shorter fur and is built for warmer weather, but that didn’t stop his adventuring on our jaunt through the woods wearing the ororo heated vest.

Anyone who spends time outdoors knows that bulky, cumbersome gear can turn an exciting outing into a tiring, frustrating one. I was pleasantly surprised with the Koldpwoof vest’s sleek, snug design, enabling the dogs to pass through thick forests without getting hung up on branches or debris. I left the vest on Bruce as we travelled through the forest; besides a few shakes, he barely seemed to notice it was there.

Evie, our German Shepherd, enjoyed the vest, even opting to lay on the snow as it warmed her shoulders and back after our long hike.

Occasionally, during the hike, the vest was prone to twisting slightly with fast movement, like running, twisting, or turning abruptly. I prefer the vest for the beginning and end of a hike as a warm-up and comforting end as their body temperature stays elevated while trailing through the forest at a run. This vest would be perfect to toss on during overnight camping trips, longer car rides after a chilly day, or any prolonged exercise in the elements.

The adjustable vest fits three of our four dogs, which is terrific for multi-dog households. Not only does the vest have reflective stripes, but the ororo also lights with an LED glow during lowlight conditions for easy location and added safety.

Active dogs, especially those with jobs tend to work happily in most conditions. The Koldpwoof dog vests ensure their efforts aren’t in vain by guaranteeing their comfort long after the day is done.

Key Features

Charging & Battery Capabilities

The B22A and B25A batteries are rechargeable, with a 7.4V output. The battery can last up to 9.5 hours on low and 5 hours on high. With a 2.5-hour charge, the battery can quickly hit full capacity and be ready for the next adventure. The battery is curved to sit comfortably over the dog’s spine.

The battery should not be left uncharged for long periods and should be recharged at least every 3 months.

Heating Zones

The Koldpwoof Heated Dog Vest has four heating zones. These zones sit above the right and left shoulder and along the right and left lower back. The vest will automatically switch from high heat to low heat after 15 minutes as a precaution and to prevent overheating. A quick look at the light (red for high heat, blue for low heat, and white for visibility) will inform you quickly which setting your dog’s vest is on.

Vest Material

The vest is made of a 100% nylon outer shell, with the lining and fill being 100% polyester. (See above for cleaning recommendations).

Is ororo a Good Value?

Ororo is priced slightly higher than other competitors’ heated vests. However, it remains affordable, given the quality of the material and batteries. Not only does ororo keep their prices affordable for high-quality gear, but their warranty policies deliver comfort and insurance to those investing in this particular vest.

How We Tested

As a multi-dog household in the mountains of BC, Canada, we experience cold weather for 5 to 6 months of the year. During the winter months, our dogs are rarely left behind on our outings, whether that be a horse ride, snowshoe, or hike to a mountain top, and to keep them all functioning at top performance, extra care is required as the temperature drops.

To determine the best use for the ororo vest, I chose to try it on multiple dogs on different adventures and was happy to see the design held up for very active dogs in a rural setting.

I’ll be glad to outfit my dog with this vest during camping in our warmer months as well, as the nights can get chilly, even for a dog with a fur coat.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

How well does the vest wipe clean?

While adventuring, Fido is bound to kick up some mud or splash through a puddle. The vest wipes well with a damp cloth for spot-cleaning between full washes. For full cleaning instructions, see the above “Cleaning” section.

How many colors and sizes can I choose from?

The Koldpwoof heated dog vest comes in yellow and blue. Sizing options include Small, Medium, and Large.

How do I measure my pet?

You’ll need to obtain three measurements while the dog is standing to choose an accurate vest for your dog. With a soft measuring tape, measure around the base of the neck, the chest circumference (just behind the front legs), and the length (base of neck to base of tail).

Conclusion

Chances are, if you’re reading this article, you don’t live where palm trees exist. Colder climates call for rugged gear and ororo supplies that. Staying within a reasonable price range keeps ororo gear flying off the shelves to combat the snowy winters of the Midwest and chillier spots like Canada. If you need cold weather gear (for you or your dog) ororo’s rechargeable batteries that function in multiple items are the best bang for your buck. Enjoy the snowiest seasons with your furry friend in a heated dog vest from ororo.
