A long while ago a reader asked me to drive home the point that cats with FIV/feline AIDS can live good, long lives. Some facilities routinely euthanize FIV-infected cats. I believe such policies are bad ones (although I also understand that scarce resources often contribute to the development of policies that shelters would rather not have). A few days ago APP.com in New Jersey posted an interesting article on the subject. The author’s conclusions: FIV-positive cats can lead essentially normal lives; they need not be euthanized simply for having feline AIDS.
