Singing Dog Warms Hearts

I ain’t nothin’ but a pound dog…
By Alison Bellamy

PERCY is not simply a loyal mutt, he warbles a bit too.

When he is not melting visitors’ hearts with his doe-like eyes at a Leeds dog sanctuary he is cheering up his kennel mates with his favorite tunes.

Now Leeds Dogs Trust is reluctantly appealing for a home for their most charismatic resident.

From being shy and reclusive he has blossomed into the star of the rehoming centre in Adel and spends most of the day singing.

Staff at the kennels say the 10-year-old crossbred Lurcher’s extrovert personality and wonderful singing voice makes a fan of everyone he meets.

Percy was found after his owner died. Percy had lost most of his fur and was extremely underweight. He was terrified and cried if anyone went near him.

However, staff have lavished him with care over the last few weeks and he has made a remarkable turnaround.

Rehoming centre manager, Amanda Sands, said: “Percy is a real character. He is mad about toys and has his own toy box, full to bursting. Despite this, he still pinches the other dog’s toys. “All the dogs at our centre are special, but now and again one comes along that seems to make a big impression on everyone and Percy is one of them. He can be a handful, but in return he gives an endless amount of love, happiness and laughter there is never a dull moment with Percy around!”

If you can offer Percy a home or are interested in finding out more about rehoming a rescue dog, call the rehoming centre on 0113 261 3194.

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and cares for 13,500 animals a year in 16 rehoming centres. For more information visit www.dogstrust.org.uk.
