Friendship bracelets were a staple in my childhood, as they may have been for many people. A token symbolizing our strong bonds with our friends. A true honor to make and receive! Although I still love my friends as an adult, these days my dog is definitely my best friend. Mimi Green designed a dog-approved version of the friendship bracelet, so I can gift my furry bestie one of her own! Very similar in style to the beaded ones I remember wearing as a kid, this is such a cute addition to the collar closet that is sure to get my pup a lot of attention.

Our Experience

I enjoyed every aspect of the Mimi Green custom collar experience! Designing the exact friendship bracelet I wanted for my pup Lorelei was very simple – all of the options on the website are well written out. My dog has an exact 12” neck, so I didn’t need to email about a custom size, but I appreciated that Mimi Green will assist with pups who are in between sizes. I chose the following options:

The package arrived quickly, and the collar was neatly stowed in a ziploc-style bag. It was so compact that my mailman plopped it in my mailbox rather than by the front door!

The first thing I wanted to do after taking the collar out of the bag was feel the silicone beads – I didn’t know what to expect from that and was so curious. The beads were so soft and comfortable, and had a slight squish to them in my fingers. I could tell they have just enough softness and flexibility to be comfortable for my dog, while remaining durable enough for any of her antics. I loved how vibrantly colored all of the beads are (very true to color from the website), and the “Lorelei” text was so easy to read from the text beads!

The shape of the buckle also impressed me, as the buckle and biothane attachment both have a curve to them. I love how this collar sits on my dog, and the buckle shape plays a significant role in this. The steel D-ring is easy to clasp a leash to, similar to my dog’s other collars.

Lorelei looks so adorable in this collar, and she didn’t mind it at all. After wearing it for a while, I think my pup forgot it was even on (she even took a nap with it, which isn’t something she does with her other collars), which is a big testament to how comfortable this collar is. My pup is a very polite leash walker, so it was easy to take her on a walk, and I could feel how sturdy the steel chain running inside is.

Washing was a breeze, I didn’t even need to use soap! Just a quick little rinse.

Although the website did mention that long-haired dogs may have their fur pinched and tugged in the collar, I haven’t had that experience with Lorelei (and she has quite the lion’s mane around her neck)! I think this is more a matter of making sure you don’t tug on your dog’s collar, especially if you have a longer furred pup. However, this is worth mentioning just in case.

This addition to Lorelei’s collar closet is a welcome one. Being so unique, I don’t have anything quite like it, and I am helping her stay stylish wherever we go!

Nostalgic Style Made With High-End Materials

The friendship bracelets we used to make as kids aren’t quite pet-friendly (I remember them even pinching me in the wrist as a child!), but Mimi Green took this design and adapted it for your four-legged best friend.

Each bead is made of BPA-free 15mm Soft Touch Silicone Beads, which won’t hurt your pup if they push against them. The silicone is also very comfortable for long-term wear. The buckle is contoured to flow with the round shape of your dog’s neck (rather than being flat). All three buckle options are also known as quick-release buckles, they are easy to pinch open. The buckles are attached to lightweight waterproof biothane tabs.

The actual “string” that runs through the collar is 1/16 Stainless Steel Cable, which features a 368lbs breaking strength. This being said, I would not recommend using this collar on a dog that tugs a lot – not because it might break, but because the collar is beaded and may not be suitable for strong pullers.

There are 17 sizes available for dogs ranging from small (11”) to extra-large (27”). If your pup is between sizes, Mimi Green can make custom sizes as well. Collar width is also customizable, with widths ranging from 5/8” wide, 3/4″ wide, or 1” wide.
