Dogster_Website dividers_v1_Jan 18 2025-03 How Much Does a Labrador Retriever Puppies Cost?

It depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a show-quality Labrador Retriever puppy, you can expect to spend over £2,000! However, if you’re not that particular, you can find pups that go for £600 to £800.

Other factors that you need to consider are the price and the time of year that you’re shopping. Many people want that magical Christmas puppy, and since breeding seasons don’t always line up for that, you can expect to spend more than you would throughout other times of the year.

Keep in mind that while most of that money is profit, it also goes to cover initial shots, health check-ups, and other necessary things to keep the puppies happy and healthy.

Things to Ask a Labrador Retriever Puppies Breeder

Don’t assume that everyone has your best interest at heart. Before you buy a puppy, ask the breeder the following questions.

  • References: Before purchasing a dog from a breeder, get and check their references. Ideally, you want to reach out to customers whom the breeder might not be listing. While it’s not as easy to get these, it’s the best way to get an unbiased opinion. Of course, check the references that they provide too, and don’t be afraid to ask questions about their dogs’ health and any problems that they have had.
  • Health records: If the breeder won’t provide certifications of the puppies and their parents’ health, get away from there as fast as you can. Good breeders shouldn’t have any problems providing these records for you, but you might have to ask for them.
  • Registration status: This one comes down to the pedigree of the dog. If you’re not paying for a registered dog, don’t expect the paperwork. Of course, if you’re spending a premium for the registration status, get copies of everything and the original registration paperwork for your puppy. Keep in mind that you need the official registration status for your puppy, not just the parents.
  • Is there a health guarantee?: No breeder can guarantee that their puppy will be healthy for life. Do get a guarantee of health for at least a few months. If they’re not willing to give you that, it’s a bad sign, and you shouldn’t get a puppy from them.
  • Can you meet the parents?: You’ll want to do this for two reasons. First, you should see the genetic lineage that your puppy is coming from. Second, you want to ensure that everyone is healthy and that you’re not supporting a puppy mill.
  • Where are the puppies raised?: Puppies raised in the home adapt better than puppies raised in separate barns and enclosures. Try to support someone that’s in it for the right reasons, not just the money.

3. They Are Extremely Smart and Trainable

If you want a dog that you can train to do about a million tasks, a Labrador Retriever is a great choice. They’re one of the most intelligent dog breeds out there, and their eagerness to please their owner makes them relatively easy to train.

4. They Are Loyal

One of the most well-known traits of a Labrador Retriever is how loyal they are. It’s a well-earned reputation, and they’ll prove it to you time and time again.

5. They’re Great Family Dogs

Labrador Retrievers love to be a part of the family, and as such, they do great around kids of all sizes and ages. If you have kids and want a dog, a Labrador Retriever is ideal.
