NYC suburbs: Therapy dog prompts special needs child to talk
January 31, 2008MAHOPAC, N.Y. – A black Labrador mix named Boo is being credited with getting a 6-year-old boy to talk for the first time.
Boo, a therapy dog, was brought to Austin Road Elementary School in the Putnam County suburb of Mahopac (MAY oh pak) and introduced to children with special learning needs.
The kids included Marc Oliviere, who –for unknown reasons–did not speak.
Marc’s mom, April Oliviere, told the Journal News in Thursday editions that she still gets chills when recalls the afternoon last month when her son jumped off the school bus — clutching Boo’s picture and talking about him.
