AHMEDABAD: A fire brigade team toiled for over an hour to rescue a stray dog that fell in a drainage line near Sonal Complex on Hatkeshwar-Khokhra Road on Monday.

The team tried to break a grill on a manhole, a part of a now defunct 200 m drainage dug by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC). They had to use hammers to break the grill, which did not come off.

According to fire brigade officials, they got a call at 11 am on Monday to rescue a dog. “We tried to remove the grill on the hole but it had to be broken with hammers,” said an official.

Harshad Patel, a social worker called up fire brigade after coming to know of the incident on Monday. “When we were not successful in getting the dog out, we called up firemen. According to the nearby shop owners, the dog fell into the pit on Sunday night. Its cries were heard outside,” he stated.
