    Fromm Dog Food Reviewed

Fromm Dog Food is an independent company with over 100 years of making quality dog food. This family-owned company brings a wealth of experience and integrity to its business, and the results stand out. Their dog food is formulated to meet the needs of several dogs and produces many varieties.

Who Makes Fromm and Where Is It Produced?

All dry Fromm food is produced in two factories located in Wisconsin in the United States. Fromm Wet Food is produced in a separate cannery also located in Wisconsin. Each of these factories is owned by the Fromm company, which allows them to have full control over the quality of their manufacturing and reduces opportunities for mistakes.

Which Type of Dog Is Fromm Best Suited For?

Fromm makes dog food in four lines. Its dry food lines are Gold, Four Star, and Classic food, and they cater to various age groups and breed sizes. It also has a pate line that produces canned wet foods.

Which Type of Dog Might Do Better With a Different Brand?

Although Fromm Dog Foods are ideal for many dogs, they aren't perfect for all. Fromm doesn’t make prescription foods or foods formulated for specialized diets, and dogs with medical issues impacting their diet may need food from another brand. For example, dogs with kidney disease might require a food like Hill’s Science Diet Kidney Care instead. Many Fromm recipes also include dairy products, which aren’t ideal for dogs with lactose intolerance.

Fromm Dog Food produces three lines of dry food, and we'll examine them below.

    Fromm Gold

Their most popular line, Fromm Gold, provides a holistic approach to dog food with multi-protein foods meant to meet all nutritional needs. This includes formulas based on your dog’s life stage, type, and nutritional needs. Fromm Gold has grain-inclusive and grain-free recipes.

    Fromm Four Star

This line provides delicious, nutritious foods in various flavors and palettes. These include many novel proteins and some grain-free and grain-inclusive formulas. An array of fruits and vegetables add support to the primary protein.

    Fromm Classic

Fromm Classic is based on the original recipe, which is nearly 100 years old. This chicken and rice recipe has slight tweaks to update it to modern nutritional standards and food lines for puppies, adults, and seniors.

    Fromm Dog Food Recall History

There have been two Fromm dog food recalls in the past. In 2016, Fromm discovered through its analysis that three canned dog food recipes had slightly elevated levels of vitamin D. They recalled them out of an abundance of caution. No dogs were reported to be adversely affected by the recalled food.

In 2021, Fromm once again recalled canned food because of elevated levels of vitamin D. Fromm issued a recall, and there were no reports of illness or death because of vitamin D toxicity.

Reviews of the 3 Best Fromm Dog Food Recipes

    1. Fromm Gold Nutritionals Adult Food

    Fromm Gold Adult Dog Food

Fromm Gold Nutritionals Adult Food is the frontrunner of its gold line and its most popular food. The main ingredients are chicken, chicken meal, chicken broth, oat groats, barley, and brown rice. It also contains smaller amounts of many other ingredients, including cheese, lamb, duck, carrots, and celery. The formula contains 25% protein, 16% fat, and 5.5% fiber.

Overall, Nutrionals Adult Food is a healthy and balanced meal. Having so many meat products in the first ingredients is a great sign, and the whole grains included are nutritious and add a lot to your dog’s food. We also love the abundance of fruits and vegetables.

However, the exhaustive ingredient list isn’t ideal for dogs with allergies or limited diets. Cheese is also a problem for dogs with lactose intolerance

    Pros

    • Meat first
    • Varied ingredient list
    • Healthy protein and fat content

    Cons

    • Diary products aren't suitable for pups with lactose intolerance

    2. Fromm Four Star Beef Frittata Veg

Fromm FourStar Dog Food Beef Frittata

Another popular Fromm Food is the Four Star Beef Frittata Veg. Its main ingredients are beef, beef broth, eggs, lentils, peas, and pork meal. It has a high protein content of 30%, 18% fat, and 6.5% fiber. This formula is grain-free with lentils and peas, but recent research has linked it to higher rates of heart disease. Therefore, it might not be ideal for all dogs.

It also contains dairy that can cause problems for some dogs; however, it is free of chicken, making it ideal for dogs with chicken allergies. The high protein and fat levels make this a good choice for active and large dogs.

    Pros

    • Hearty beef as the first ingredient
    • Free of chicken allergens
    • High in protein and fat for active dogs

    Cons

    • Grain-free with peas and lentils
    • Dairy may affect lactose-sensitive dogs

    3. Fromm Puppy Gold Food

    Fromm Puppy Gold Dog Food

Fromm Puppy Gold food uses chicken, chicken meal, chicken broth, oat groats, pearled barley, menhaden fish meal, and brown rice as its first ingredients. It is similar to Adult Gold food but slightly reformulated to meet the needs of growing puppies. Its macronutrient breakdown is 27% protein, 18% fat, and 5.5% fiber.

The formula is ideal for puppies and pregnant or nursing mothers and provides plenty of fuel. The chicken and whole grains are highly digestible and ideal for most puppies, but chicken is one of the more common dog allergens.

    Pros

    • Ideal protein and fat content for puppies
    • Formulated for growth
    • Digestible and healthy

    Cons

    • Some puppies may need chicken-free food

    What Other Users Are Saying

    • AnimalSo: “Fromm Gold is a high-quality line of dog foods.”
    • Pet Food Guru: “Fromm dog food is packed with high-quality animal proteins, allergen-free fruits and vegetables, and important grains.”
    • Amazon: Owners are the best reviewers—we love to see what others say. See Fromm dog food reviews on Amazon by clicking here.

    Final Verdict

Overall, Fromm is a pricey but high-quality line of dog foods. We love this company because it combines timeless production values with modern manufacturing and research. Each recipe has a balanced, well-researched ingredients list and is produced in the USA.

We’ve been feeding our two year poodle Fromm’s small breed adult since we switched from their puppy formula. We started with it because of a recommendation from our pet food store. We now mix it half and have with Dr Marty’s freeze dried food witch we add water to soften. It seems to work for us. I was happy to read that it stood up to testing! Thanks

Our vet questioned if it had enough grains for our new puppy because it didn't show any corn.

Hello Marilyn, thank you for your question. As you may notice in the article, there are several Fromm Dog Food recipes - some include grains, some are grain-free. And although there may not be corn in the recipes, the grains are represented by oats, barley and brown rice. With that being said - every dog is different and every dog has their own nutritional needs, so consulting the perfect diet for your pup with a veterinarian is a great idea! If you would like a veterinarian consultation from the comfort of your home, the veterinarians from www.PangoVet.com will be happy to give you some advice. You can book a 20-minute video-call appointment at your convenience. Hope this helps.
