How terrible! This sounds like some evil person who is targeting dogs as a way to get his sick jollies. Let’s all keep this neighborhood in our thoughts. I suspect someone has or will see this person murdering dogs with this poison.

Police: 4 More Dogs Found Poisoned
Residents Say Numerous Dogs Killed, Sickened

January 15, 2008

INDIANAPOLIS — Concern is mounting again in a neighborhood on Indianapolis’ north side in which several dogs appeared to have been poisoned within the past two months.

Police said four additional dogs, all belonging to the same owner, were poisoned within the past few days in Rocky Ripple, near Butler University.

The dogs were taken to a veterinarian shortly after all became sick at the same time, police said. The veterinarian said rat poison pellets were found in the dogs’ stomachs.

Rat poison injures a dog by depleting Vitamin K and keeps the animal’s blood from clotting.

Residents are again being told to watch their animals closely. Last month, three dogs died and others became ill in the same general area.

Residents said they think someone is frustrated by animals running loose in the neighborhood and is trying to kill them, but some of the dogs were confined to their owners’ property, authorities said.

“Of course I’m concerned,” said Dina Ferreira. “We just have not been letting the dog run around in the back yard without supervision, and I hope they can figure out what’s going on soon.”

Anyone who thinks his or her dog might have been poisoned should examine the animal for bleeding, weakness and pale gums. Animals can be successfully treated if the poisoning is discovered early.
