Labor councillor slams university experiments on pound dogs
The Brisbane City Council is awaiting a report into the use of live dogs in veterinary research.
The Lord Mayor has put a halt to the research, pending a review of the practice.
Four hundred dogs were being sent from Council dog pounds to universities each year and some were operated on before being put down.
Labor councillor Steve Griffiths says it is an inappropriate practice.
“It’s inhumane and it really is outdated and we need to be moving on and the university needs to be moving on with other forms of practice,” Cr Griffiths said.
