Bubbles shimmer, and bounce, and they’re unpredictable. Other than a damp smear, they don’t cause damage, and as long as you opt for a safe bubble mixture, they are not only fun for kids and cats, but for some dogs and puppies too. Although there aren’t any bubble machines designed specifically for use with dogs, you can choose from a wide variety of automatic machines available on the market. Features to consider include bubble output per minute, whether the bubble head moves, and, of course, the cost.

Below, we have rounded up reviews of 10 of the best bubble machines for dogs to meet any budget and canine requirements.

  • The 10 Best Bubble Machines for Dogs

    1. Zerhunt Bubble Machine – Best Overall

    Zerhunt Bubble Machine
    Power:Batteries or mains
    Output (bubbles per minute):8,000
    Run time:90 minutes
    Dimensions:10 x 6 x 6 inches

The Zerhunt Bubble Machine is an upgraded version of the company’s original machine offering improved bubble mixture capacity, run time, and bubble output figures. It is a little more expensive than most but the design is safe, with rounded edges designed for use by children and safe for dogs and puppies, and a fan that automatically switches off if anything comes into contact with it. The machine has multiple bubble wands that spin using the fan, and this can produce up to 8,000 bubbles per minute, although the actual output will depend on the quality of the bubble mixture used. The Zerhunt can be powered by batteries, plugged into the mains, or it can use a battery pack, although there is no pack, mains lead, or batteries provided. The bubble mix tank holds up to 400 milliliters of liquid, which should produce between 30 and 90 minutes of bubbles, depending on which of the two-speed settings you use. The Zerhunt is the best available bubble machine for dogs, although it is loud and doesn’t include batteries.

    Pros

    • Can be powered by batteries or via the mains
    • Produces up to 8,000 bubbles per minute
    • Robustly built for a bubble machine

    Cons

    • Quite loud
    • No batteries

    2. Gazillion Bubbles Rollin’ Wave Bubble Machine – Best Value

    Gazillion Rollin' Wave
    Power:Battery
    Output (bubbles per minute):2,000
    Run time:Depends
    Dimensions:3.5 x 6.75 x 8 inches

The Gazillion Bubbles Rollin’ Wave Bubble Machine is an inexpensive automatic bubble machine that, when running, produces bubbles from an arc of bubble wands above a battery-operated motor. Filling the machine is easy: simply pour the solution, 4 ounces of which is included with the machine, into the reservoir before pressing the power button. The bubbles do fire vertically, although any small breeze will cause them to carry and offer a little more movement. The machine runs on AA batteries, but it is a noisy machine, so is best suited to being used outdoors or in a room away from everyday life. Also, the machine only performs at its best when using Gazillion’s bubble mixture, which is a little more expensive than other brands and certainly more expensive than making your own mix. The low price, ease of use, and the decent number of bubbles produced make this the best bubble machine for dogs for the money.

    Pros

    • Cheap
    • Includes 4 ounces of bubbles
    • Easy to use and lightweight

    Cons

    • Not suitable for homemade bubble mix
    • Loud

    3. ADJ Products Bubbletron – Premium Choice

    ADJ Products Bubbletron
    Power:Mains
    Output (bubbles per minute):Not specified
    Run time:N/A
    Dimensions:14 x 7 x 8.25 inches

If you’re looking for something durable or you want a machine that will double up as a stage bubble machine, the ADJ Products Bubbletron is ideal, but it is the most expensive option on the list. The mains-powered machine will hold up to 2 liters of bubble mix, which means it will run for hours without needing to be refilled, especially as it is mains powered and not reliant on battery levels. It produces hundreds of bubbles per minute and fires them up and forwards, which means that your dog will have to be active to chase them. It is sturdier and more robustly built than other machines, although this also means that it is heavier and not as easily transported. And, it is blissfully quiet compared to a lot of the smaller battery-operated alternatives. It does have a high price tag, but if you need a regular, constant supply of bubbles, it is a high-quality option.

    Pros

    • Good bubble projection
    • Quieter than others
    • Large bubble mix capacity lasts hours

    Cons

    • Expensive
    • Not lightweight

    4. Bubbletastic Peanut Butter Scented Dog Bubbles

Bubbletastic Peanut Butter Scented Dog Bubbles
    Power:NA
    Output (bubbles per minute):NA
    Run time:NA
    Dimensions:NA

Just as important as getting the right bubble machine is getting the right bubble mix to put in the machine. Bubbletastic does a range of bubble machines of its own and they also produce a range of scented bubbles that are safe for dogs to chase and eat. The Bubbletastic Peanut Butter Scented Dog Bubbles smell of peanut butter, which is a favorite treat of many dogs. It doesn’t contain nuts, though, which are a possible allergen, and is completely free of allergens. The mixture also has a tear-free formula that won’t irritate your dog’s eyes even if the bubbles burst. The bottle contains 8 ounces of the mixture and it does contain a bubble wand so that you can test to see if your dog likes bubbles before investing in a machine. Bubbletastic’s mix is more expensive than making your own, and the wand isn’t attached to the lid so it can get messy when you put it back in the bottle: otherwise, this is a good solution for those that want to test their dog’s reaction to bubbles or that need a refill for an existing machine and don’t want to make their own.

    Pros

    • Peanut-scented bubble mix
    • Includes a bubble wand
    • Non-toxic, allergen-free, tear-free formula

    Cons

    • Wand isn’t attached to the lid

    5. KINDIARY Bubble Machine

    KINDIARY Bubble Machine
    Power:Battery or mains
    Output (bubbles per minute):5,000
    Run time:40 minutes
    Dimensions:8.5 x 6.88 x 6.29 inches

The KINDIARY Bubble Machine produces around 5,000 bubbles per minute, can be operated by battery or directly from mains, and has two-speed levels. On the lowest speed, and with a full 12.8 ounces of bubble mixture in the reservoir, you can enjoy 40 minutes of uninterrupted runtime, which should be enough for even the most enthusiastic bubble chaser. As well as being a lightweight machine that is easy to pick up, it has a handle to make it even more portable. The machine is quite expensive, definitely looks as though it is designed for kids, and the machine stops producing bubbles before the reservoir is empty without providing a simple means of emptying the remaining liquid. However, it is quieter than some of the other models and does a good job of producing decent-sized bubbles.

    Pros

    • Can use batteries or mains power
    • Quieter than some machines
    • 8-ounce reservoir is generous

    Cons

    • Difficult to empty leftover liquid

    6. Hicober Automatic Bubble Machine

    Hicober Automatic Bubble Machine
    Power:Batteries and mains
    Output (bubbles per minute):1,700
    Run time:50 minutes
    Dimensions:10.06 x 7.48 x 6.57 inches

The Hicober Automatic Bubble Machine can be run using batteries or plugged into the mains. The 7-ounce reservoir does a good job of preventing bubble mix from spilling or splashing out around the machine and it produces up to 1,700 bubbles per minute which are projected up to 5 meters. The bubble production rate, even at the highest setting, is lower than a lot of similar machines, but the reservoir is also smaller, which means that you don’t really see a benefit from fewer bubbles. And, despite having quite a small reservoir, it is bigger than machines with a smaller tank. It is a fairly quiet machine, however, comes with the AC adapter needed to use mains power, and it does have variable speed settings that enable you to get the setting just right for your canine companions.

    Pros

    • Quite quiet
    • Includes AC adapter for mains power
    • Two-speed settings

    Cons

    • Small bubble mix tank
    • Doesn’t produce as many bubbles as some other models

    7. Kidzlane Bubble Machine

    Kidzlane Bubble Machine
    Power:Batteries
    Output (bubbles per minute):500
    Run time:15 minutes
    Dimensions:9.5 x 6.75 x 9.5 inches

The Kidzlane Bubble Machine is a battery-operated bubble machine that, while designed for kids, is suitable for use with dogs, too. It has been designed so that it won’t easily tip over or spill, uses AA batteries that are easy to get hold of and inexpensive, and is a really affordable machine. It produces 500 bubbles per minute, which is a lot lower than some of the more expensive models but should be ample in most pet owners’ cases. It also lacks different speed modes and the ability to plug it in but it is reasonably quiet and easy to use, and the slower speed of the spinning wands means that it tends to produce some larger bubbles that will be more likely to get attention. It does have a tendency to leak fluid when used, however, so be prepared to put tissue or a towel under the machine to avoid any sticky messes.

    Pros

    • Inexpensive
    • Uses easily replaced AA batteries
    • Designed to prevent tipping over

    Cons

    • Tends to leak
    • Only runs for about 15 minutes before refill

    8. FUBBLES No Spill Funfiniti Bubble Machine

FUBBLES No Spill Funfiniti Bubble Machine
    Power:Battery
    Output (bubbles per minute):Not specified
    Run time:1 hour
    Dimensions:6 x 8.8 x 8 inches

The FUBBLES No Spill Funfiniti Bubble Machine runs on AA batteries and offers up to an hour of continuous bubble production, which is ideal for exuberant dogs and those that obsess over any new game. The machine has been designed to be no spill and is filled by unscrewing the bottom. It will hold up to 20 ounces of bubble mixture and the inexpensive package includes 2 ounces of concentrate that dilutes down to make 20 ounces of mixture. Although the Funfiniti Bubble Machine is designed to prevent spills, it does have a somewhat top-heavy design so especially eager pups are liable to knock the bubble machine over in their anticipation. It also fires the bubbles straight up, which means that your dog is likely to land on or knock the machine while playing.

    Pros

    • Package is good value for money
    • Includes 2 ounces of concentrated bubble mix
    • Holds 20 ounces of bubble mix for 1 hour of continued use

    Cons

    • Easy to knock over
    • Bubbles aim straight up

    9. BestJoy Bubble Machine

    BestJoy Bubble Machine
    Power:USB rechargeable, batteries
    Output (bubbles per minute):Not specified
    Run time:5 hours
    Dimensions:8 x 4.7 x 8.6 inches

The BestJoy Bubble Machine is a fairly expensive automatic bubble machine, although it is one of the only ones that offer an oscillating base to give greater bubble projection. There are three settings: stationary, 90°, and 360° rotation. The machine has a generous 500-milliliter reservoir, and it can be recharged via USB cable or you can use AA batteries. The machine comes with two 50-milliliter bottles of concentrated liquid, which can be watered down so that each bottle provides a full reservoir of liquid. Although great for kids, and suitable for dogs that won’t jump at the machine itself, it is unsteady, especially when oscillating, and it will be easily knocked over. It’s also on the expensive side, compared to some of the simpler machines, and although the manufacturer claims it will last 5 hours with a full reservoir, it really lasts about half that time.

    Pros

    • Can oscillate at 90° or 360°
    • Includes 100 milliliters of concentrated bubble mix

    Cons

    • A little expensive
    • May be too unsteady for boisterous dogs

    10. Balnore Bubble Machine

    Balnore Bubble Machine
    Power:Batteries
    Output (bubbles per minute):2,000
    Run time:30 minutes
    Dimensions:9 x 5.6 x 5 inches

The Balnore Bubble Machine is another that has been designed primarily for kids but can be used for dogs. It is shaped like a whale but isn’t too easy to knock over. It can produce up to 2,000 bubbles per minute, runs on AA batteries, and is reasonably priced. AA batteries are easy to find and replace, but they don’t last long, so if your dog really enjoys chasing the bubbles, you will need additional batteries to hand. The liquid tends to leak a little and this can end up in the battery compartment, and the Balnore is quite loud so best used outdoors or away from where you’re sat.

    Pros

    • Cheap
    • 2,000 bubbles per minute is reasonable for the price

    Cons

    • Leaks
    • Batteries run out quickly
    • Loud

Buyer's Guide: Choosing the Best Bubble Machines for Dogs

Most dogs love to play. They especially enjoy chasing things and if you have an exuberant dog that loves to chase, it can be tiresome to have to keep throwing a ball around the yard. Bubbles offer a decent alternative. Your dog will never catch one without it popping, but most dogs enjoy the thrill of the chase enough that they continue and chase the next bubble. And the next one.

Using a manual bubble wand means that you may be able to blow a few bubbles a minute and, in this time, most dogs will lose interest. An automatic bubble machine is a powered bubble machine that has bubble wands, some means of automatically soaking the wand, and a fan that blows air through the mixture-soaked wand to create fun bubbles. They are enjoyed by kids, can be used on stage and at events to provide a unique experience, and automatic bubble machines are also great for cats and dogs to play with.

Obviously, dogs have different requirements to toddlers, DJs, and event planners, and when looking for the best bubble machines for dogs we considered the following features.

    Power Source

The fan that blows the bubbles needs to be powered, and this power is usually provided by either batteries or mains electricity.  Mains-powered machines need to be close enough to an outlet to be able to plug in, and there is a risk that your dog will trip over or pull the wire.

On the other hand, battery-powered machines need replacement batteries but they are portable and don’t have any trip-hazard wires. Most machines use either AA batteries, which are readily available in a lot of stores but have a short life, or C batteries, which are harder to come by and more expensive but will last longer.

Some bubble machines offer the option of battery or mains power, and there are even some that can be charged using a USB cable.

The best option really depends on how, and where, you intend to use the bubble machine. If you want to take it to the park or use it in the garden away from a mains outlet, you will need a battery-powered machine. If you will exclusively use it indoors, it may be beneficial to get a mains-powered machine instead.

    Bubble Production

One of the benefits of getting a bubble machine, rather than blowing bubbles manually, is that a machine can blow a lot more bubbles in the same amount of time. Some of the machines above can blow as many as 5,000 bubbles per minute, which is nearly 100 a second.

It’s unlikely your dog will get close to catching this many bubbles, but this large number of bubbles will capture the attention and raise the interest of your dog. Some machines produce fewer bubbles, and these machines can be just as enjoyable but work for longer while needing fewer refills.

    Run Time

Run time is relevant to all bubble machines. It is determined by the amount of liquid that the machine can hold and the amount that the machine uses. If your dog quickly loses attention or likes to move on to something new after a few minutes, even a machine that lasts 15 minutes should be ample. If your canine companion is one that will sit and enjoy the same game for an hour or more, there are bubble machines that can run this long.

    Bubble Projection

Bubble projection is the direction and even the distance that a bubble machine blows the bubbles. While there is nothing really wrong with bubbles that are projected directly upwards, this may mean that your dog is more likely to land on or knock over the bubble machine as they lunge for the shimmering bubbles.

Look for those that project bubbles outwards at least some way, and if you really have an active, physical dog, you can find machines that oscillate and therefore encourage your dog to run around more during the game.

    Stability

At some point, it is likely that your dog will investigate where the bubbles are coming from. If it does so while still energetically charging around, the machine can easily be knocked over. Look for machines that are stable enough that your dog won’t easily knock them over, otherwise you will have to spend a lot of your time picking up the machine and steadying it again.

    Tank Size

Tank size refers to the volume of bubble mix that the machine will hold. Larger tanks can produce more bubbles before they need refilling. More bubbles don’t necessarily mean that the machine runs for longer before refilling, because the run time is also determined by the number of bubbles that the machine produces over time.

Are Bubble Machines Safe for Dogs?

Bubble machines are generally safe for dogs. However, some commercial bubble mix contains ingredients that might be toxic to dogs, and even some washing-up liquids, which are commonly used to make homemade bubble mix, could make your dog ill. Therefore, as well as making sure you choose a machine that is stable, you should look at the safety of the bubble mixture itself.

How Do You Make Dog-Safe Bubbles?

Use a natural, biodegradable dish detergent and mix approximately ½ a cup with a cup of water. If you also add a teaspoon of vegetable glycerine, this will make the bubbles stronger so they last longer, grow bigger, and potentially shimmer with more color, too. You can even add flavoring like a very small amount of bone broth to really get your dog’s attention.

divider dog paws 4 oct 2024

    Conclusion

Dogs, like kids, love bubbles. The shimmering appearance of the bubbles will get your dog’s attention, and it will enjoy chasing the bubbles. Rather than blowing them yourself, a bubble machine produces hundreds or even thousands of bubbles every minute and can run for between 15 minutes and several hours before it needs refilling.

Above, we have included reviews of 10 of the best bubble machines for dogs, to help you find the one that is best for you and your dog. The Zerhunt Bubble Machine is a sturdily built machine that can run on battery or mains and produces as many as 8,000 bubbles per minute, although it is a little pricey. The Gazillion Bubbles Rollin’ Wave Bubble Machine is less expensive but is battery-only. It still produces 2,000 bubbles per minute, for your dog’s enjoyment.
