Who Makes pawTree and Where Is It Produced?

pawTree is a privately owned company that was founded by Roger Morgan, who had almost a decade of experience as a CEO in the pet industry before founding pawTree. Roger founded pawTree in 2012 in Southlake, Texas, and the company has maintained its American roots. Their foods are produced here in the US, so you can feel good knowing your dog’s food and treats are being produced in a safe, high-quality environment.

Which Types of Dogs Is pawTree Best Suited For?

PawTree’s dog and cat food is formulated for all life stages. Their food is complete and balanced for puppies, adults, and senior dogs. They offer multiple protein sources, as well as grain-forward and grain-free foods and treats, so there are options for dogs with food sensitivities. They also have a variety of recipes with lean meat for weight management.

Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good and Bad)

All of the foods made by pawTree are made with real meat as the first ingredient, with proteins ranging from whitefish and salmon to turkey and duck. These ingredients are high in protein, and each brings its own set of excellent nutrients. The variety of proteins means there are many options for dogs with food sensitivities.

They offer grain-forward and grain-free diets, so there are choices, regardless of the type of food you’re looking for. Almost all of their grain-free diets contain some form of legume, including chickpeas, peas, and lentils. Legumes have shown a link to cardiomyopathy in dogs, so it’s important to discuss these ingredients with your vet before switching your dog. They do offer a couple of grain-free recipes that are also free of legumes, though, like chicken and sweet potato. The grain-forward diets they offer are free of legumes, instead using nutrient-dense grains like brown rice, barley, and oatmeal.

    Selection

pawTree offers a huge selection of products for the care of dogs and cats. They currently offer 12 dog food recipes and more than a dozen different varieties of treats. They also sell products like housetraining supplies, supplements, and even gifts for the dog people in your life. Although they have a great selection of multiple types of items, they don’t currently offer puppy food, senior food, or limited-ingredient diets.

    Price Point

Since they are still a relatively small brand, pawTree doesn’t have the price margins that larger companies have. This means that their products sell for a premium price, but this price reflects the quality of the products themselves. Whole food ingredients and highly nutritious and palatable food and treat options make the price worth it, but this company’s food options may be out of the budget for many people.

Currently, pawTree offers the PawClub program, which allows you to set up auto-shipping for your pet supplies. As you place orders, you earn points that provide you with discounts, as well as receiving an automatic discount on shipping.

    Shipping

pawTree ships to all 50 US states, including Alaska and Hawaii. They offer free shipping when you have 3 qualifying items on an EZ Ship recurring order (qualifying items are anything except kibble and canned cat food). If you have less than 3, you receive discounted shipping. But if you have 3, everything has free shipping, including kibble and canned cat food. Meaning, with 3 qualifying items on a recurring order, kibble rides for free.

    Our Experience With pawTree

dolly sniffing the freeze-dried treats from pawtree

*Use Code INTRO4U20 On Your First Order When You Spend Over $100

I received two dog food recipes—Real Trout & Barley and Real Whitefish & Brown Rice—for my dogs to try, as well as the Duck & Mango and Beef Liver & Kale Treats. I currently have a 13-year-old mixed breed (Penny), a 5-year-old bully mix (Eva), and a 9-month-old Standard Poodle (Dolly). The kibble was a hit with all three dogs, and while they aren’t particularly picky dogs, they seemed to really enjoy the food a little more than the average kibble.

The real hit, though, has been the treats. These pups are absolute fiends for the freeze-dried treats, especially the Duck & Mango. Eva and Dolly both learned a new trick in a single training session when these treats were involved. Whenever they see or smell the treats, they all gather around for a piece, and they will all do just about anything for them. They’re pretty good dogs, but they all have a stubborn streak, so finding a treat that incentivizes obedience and good behavior so effectively has been fantastic. Really, the only problem is that I think they might revolt if I let the treats run out, so I’m going to have to make sure to always keep a stash of the pawTree freeze-dried treats in the cabinet.

Shipping was fast with pawTree, and the website is user-friendly. They sell a ton of products, which can make the site a little overwhelming, but it’s extremely easy to navigate and overall works very well.

    Conclusion

pawTree is a US-based company that produces holistic, high-quality foods, treats, supplements, and more for dogs and cats. They offer fast shipping, although many of their products don’t include free shipping. They ship to all 50 states, and pawTree offers the PawClub program, which provides points and discounts on products and shipping.

While pawTree products are on the pricey side, this is reflective of the high quality of their ingredients. If you order from pawTree, you’ll be supporting a US-based, privately owned business that has made it their mission to work toward making life better for pets and people alike.
