Our Experience

Vetnique YuMOVE Dog Supplements 16

Me and my senior Chihuahua, Papyrus, have a lot of experience with joint care supplements. Since I first got him at the age of one, he has struggled with luxating patellas in both knees. I knew early on that he would require extra joint support throughout his life to prevent this issue from severely hampering his mobility.

For the last eight years, we have tried many different joint support options. And for the last six weeks, we have been testing three of Vetnique’s YuMOVE products. Suffice to say, we saw some very interesting results.

What I Liked

I got to try three YuMOVE products on Papyrus. I started with their Daily Chews for small and medium dogs, which contain an impressive 500mg of glucosamine per chew. I also tested the Hip & Joint Barbecue Flavored Soft Chews, which are smaller and enhanced with extra flavor for palatability. Lastly, I had the chance to try their Joint Care for Adult Dogs tablets. The most impressive thing about all three of these products was that Papyrus, who notoriously hates the taste of glucosamine supplements, happily ate every single one of these, including the tablet! Whether I put them in his food or gave them to him straight, he had no problem gobbling them up.

I was also very impressed with the results I saw after using these for six straight weeks. Papyrus had been on a different joint supplement before this, but I still followed the directions to double the dose for the first month.
I began seeing obvious results after about three weeks, and Papyrus’s mobility continued to improve over the next few weeks. He seems less stiff overall, has less pain in his back end, and has an easier time keeping up on walks.
I have even been able to lower his daily anti-inflammatory medication dose without any negative effects, which is a huge win.

Where I Saw Room for Improvement

I have very few complaints about any of these products. Each of them contains a long list of active ingredients to help support joints in multiple ways, and the inactive ingredients are fairly clean and natural.
My only hang-up with these—and it’s pretty minor—is that some active ingredients are listed in their whole-food amount, as opposed to the target ingredient amount.
For instance, there is 300mg of green lipped mussel powder in the Daily Chews, which provides chondroitin. But the actual amount of chondroitin is not listed.

But, overall, this complaint is more or less moot since the supplements appeared to be very effective. So what they do include seems to be working well enough!

Pros & Cons

  • Effective
  • Multiple options
  • Highly palatable
  • Well-priced

Key Features

Vetnique YuMOVE Dog Supplements 9

Multiple Active Ingredients

Each of the YuMOVE products contains a long list of active ingredients that work together to support joints from all angles. While there are some small variations between the different formulas, the general makeup of active ingredients is:

  • Glucosamine HCL – A building block of cartilage and vital for maintaining healthy joints (source)
  • Green Lipped Mussel Powder – Provides chondroitin sulfate, a building block of cartilage with protective and antioxidant properties (source)
  • Vitamin C – A potent antioxidant that helps reduce inflammation and acts as a building block for cartilage (source)
  • Manganese Sulfate Monohydrate – Contains manganese, which aids in cartilage formation and repair (source)
  • Hyaluronic Acid – A natural component of synovial fluid; helps lubricate joints while aiding in the growth and development of cartilage (source)
  • Omega 3 – A potent anti-inflammatory that helps maintain synovial fluid and protect cartilage (source)
  • Vitamin E – Reduces inflammation in joints and, according to some studies, may stimulate cartilage cell growth (source)

Together, these potent ingredients not only support ongoing joint health but also have the power to ease inflammation to prevent and address damage that has already occurred. Impressively, the effectiveness of this formula has been proven via a placebo-controlled, double-blind canine clinical study.

Highly Palatable

One thing that I discovered about the YuMOVE products that isn’t talked about much in their marketing is how palatable they are. Finding a glucosamine supplement that both my dogs will actually eat has always been a challenge, with Papyrus being by far the hardest to please. I did finally find one that they will both eat, but only when I crumble the soft chews up and mix them with their food. Interestingly, both of them loved all three products I got from Vetnique.

It makes sense that they like the Hip & Joint Soft Chews because they contain natural hickory flavoring and are soft and chewy. But they also have no problem gobbling up the Daily Chews, which have the same texture but no added flavors. Even more surprisingly, they both happily eat the Joint Care tablets—even without mixing them with food. These have zero flavoring and are hard pills, which begs the question: why do my dogs like the taste of these glucose supplements so much? My theory? All three of them use fish powder as the source of omega-3s, while most other supplements I’ve tried use fish oil. I believe this concentrated fish flavor may be the key to why these chews and tablets are so readily accepted by dogs while other products are not.

Various Options

Another unique feature of the YuMOVE line is how many options are available. They have products for different age groups, different-sized dogs, and featuring different active ingredients. Here’s a quick breakdown of what’s available:

  • Joint Care Daily Chews – Soft chews available for small/medium dogs and large/extra large dogs; great for extra support and available in 60-count containers.
  • Joint Care for Adult Dogs – Tablets for adult dogs; available in 60, 120, or 300-count containers.
  • Hip & Joint Soft Chews – Barbeque flavored soft chews with half the active ingredients per bite compared to the small/medium dog Daily Chews; designed for dogs of all ages, available in 60-count bags.
  • Joint Care Plus – Tablets for very active and older dogs, made with 20% more green lipped mussel; available in 60, 120, and 300-count containers.
  • Joint Care Tasty Bites – Soft chews with half the active ingredients per bite compared to the small/medium dog Daily Chews; great for joint maintenance in healthy dogs and available in 150 and 300-count containers.
  • Joint Care for Senior Dogs – Tablets designed to support joint health in senior dogs; available in 120 and 240-count containers.
  • Joint Care for Young Dogs – Tablets designed to support long-term joint health in young dogs; contain lower concentrations of most active ingredients and are available in 60, 120, and 240-count containers.

With all these options, Vetnique makes it easy to find the right product to fit your dog’s age, joint support needs, and tastes.

Is YuMOVE a Good Value?

Compared to dog joint supplements with a similar concentration of glucosamine and chondroitin, YuMOVE products typically cost less per serving. Given that these supplements also contain more active ingredients than many of their competitors, I believe they are a great value.

How We Tested

I tested these products by giving them daily to both my dogs and taking notes on how they were tolerated, changes in their mobility, and any other effects. I continued these observations throughout the six-week testing period.
I tested palatability by offering the chews and tablets straight to my dogs as well as putting them in their bowls at mealtime. To measure the effects of the supplements, I took weekly notes on each dog’s mobility, including how stiff they seemed in the mornings, how well they did on walks, pain levels, and if they had any visible limping.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What is the difference between the adult and the senior Joint Care tablets?

The senior tablets contain more omega-3s and some additional active ingredients, including N-Acetyl D-Glucosamine.

How should the tablets be given?

The supplements in tablet form can be given hidden in a tasty treat or in cheese, or added to your dog’s meals. They are easy to break in half for smaller dogs. My dogs happily ate them straight.

Will these joint supplements actually work?

The effectiveness of YuMOVE supplements was proven in a double-blind canine clinical study at the Royal Veterinary College in the UK. Most owners see results within six weeks.
