Cavapoo Overview

Personality / Character

Cavapoos are companion dogs that would love nothing more than to spend all day with their families. They can get along with other dogs and pets, but they’re usually more people-oriented and don’t shy away from being the center of attention. They’re also often good playmates for young children, but children must be taught how to interact with them appropriately, as smaller Cavapoos are more susceptible to injury.

Exercise

Cavapoos are usually enthusiastic and energetic for most of their lives. They require daily exercise that helps them expend their physical energy and engage their minds. Smaller Cavapoos can get by with getting their exercise needs met mainly indoors. However, most Cavapoos will enjoy daily walks around the neighborhood as well as playing games like fetch and tug. Because they’re intelligent dogs, they’ll appreciate having enrichment activities incorporated into their daily routine. Treat dispensing toys and puzzles can help keep their brains active and prevent boredom and restlessness.

Training

This dog breed enjoys receiving attention and praise, so they’re often relatively easy to train. Just keep in mind that some Cavapoo puppies may get easily distracted, so it’s often more effective to keep training sessions short and do them more frequently throughout the day. Cavapoos are extremely sensitive to people’s tone of voice, so it’s important to keep training sessions positive and not let out any frustration towards a Cavapoo. It’s better to walk away and take a break from training than to push through training with impatience.

Health & Care

Cavapoos are generally healthy dogs, but they may be more susceptible to certain health issues as they age. Some health concerns to be aware of include luxating patella, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA), hip dysplasia, gastrointestinal issues, and mitral valve disease.

Most Cavapoos need to be brushed at least once a week. Their thin, curly hair is prone to tangling, and forgetting to brush can quickly lead to matting. You can also trim your Cavapoo’s coat to be a shorter length to make grooming a little more manageable.

Suitable For:

Cavapoos are good choices for first-time dog owners and families with children. They don’t do well being home alone for long hours, so they must be in living situations where someone is usually with them. Cavapoos can get along with other dogs and pets with proper socialization, but they’re perfectly content being the only pet in a home and receiving all the attention.

Mini Goldendoodle Overview

Personality / Character

Mini Goldendoodles are another hybrid breed of companion dogs. While they may have a lot of energy as puppies, they typically calm down as they reach adulthood and grow to become gentle and attentive pets. These dogs are intelligent and intuitive, and they’re quick to establish themselves as beloved members of the family. They usually don’t require as much exercise as Standard Goldendoodles and often make the best cuddle and napping buddies.

Exercise

Mini Goldendoodles often require at least 1 hour of exercise per day. They’ll enjoy daily walks, playing fetch, and going to the dog park. Some Mini Goldendoodles will also enjoy swimming, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

These dogs are highly intelligent and require a lot of mental stimulation to prevent boredom and engaging in destructive behaviors, like chewing shoes or tearing up furniture. They’re often excellent candidates for therapy dogs because of their attentiveness and intelligence, and they usually enjoy having a job.

Training

Mini Goldendoodles are relatively easy to train. While Cavapoos are easy to train because they love attention and praise, Mini Goldendoodles are easy to train because they’re eager to please. They pick up on commands and tricks pretty quickly, especially if they have a strong foundation on obedience training. Like Cavapoos, Mini Goldendoodles are extremely sensitive to harsh tones, and punishment often only leads to lowering their confidence. So, it’s important to keep training sessions fun and encouraging.

Health & Care

Mini Goldendoodles are typically healthy dogs, but they’re susceptible to similar health issues as Cavapoos, including patellar luxation and PRA. They’re also at higher risk of bloat, and larger Mini Goldendoodles may experience bone and joint issues as they age.

The grooming needs for these dogs are also similar to Cavapoos. Both breeds have similar coat types, so Mini Goldendoodles will also require brushing at least every other day.

Suitable For:

Mini Goldendoodles are excellent family dogs, and with proper socialization, they’re usually fine with living with other dogs and pets. They love being around people and are susceptible to developing separation anxiety if they’re left home alone for too long. Since they tend to be gentle, attentive, and intelligent, they often enjoy doing therapy dog work or service dog work.

Which Breed Is Right for You?

One main factor to consider between Cavapoos and Mini Goldendoodles is size. Mini Goldendoodles tend to be larger than Cavapoos and usually end up being medium-sized dogs. Cavapoos are usually smaller and can stop growing at around 10 pounds, so they’re often better suited for apartment life.

Both Cavapoos and Mini Goldendoodles make affectionate and fun family dogs. Cavapoos may act a little needier than Mini Goldendoodles because they love receiving attention. Mini Goldendoodles tend to be a bit more active and better suited for people who love outdoor activities and sports.

Overall, both dog breeds are people-oriented dogs that need a lot of human companionship. So, they’re a great fit for families, people working from home, or people who are able to let their dogs accompany them wherever they go.
