  • We Feed Raw Dog Food Review

Before we dive into our experience with We Feed Raw, let’s learn a bit more about the company and what you can expect if you choose them as a supplier of your pet’s food.

a variety of We Feed Raw dog food recipes

    Who Is We Feed Raw?

We Feed Raw began as a family company hoping to source the best foods for their pets. Originally founded by Alissa Zalneraitis, the company teamed with a Ph.D. animal nutritionist to develop its version of the best raw food for pets. They hoped to avoid processed kibble and decided to use only fresh, raw ingredients. Instead of keeping this better way of feeding their dogs to themselves, they branched out to bring it to people around the country for their pets.

Is a Raw Diet Safe for All Dogs?

You may be curious as to whether a raw diet is safe for all dogs. The answer is yes. When choosing this method of feeding your dog there are several advantages. Dogs will suffer less from allergies, they’ll digest their food better, and they’ll have better bowel movements. You’ll also notice a difference in their coat. In most cases, it is easier to manage their weight as well. No matter the dog’s life stage, raw diets have many benefits your pet can reap from this switch.

    The Ingredients

Let’s take a look at the main ingredients found in We Feed Raw dog food so you can have a better understanding of what to expect.

All meats are processed in USDA-certified factories and are BRC compliant.

    Is Animal Bone Safe?

Each patty of raw food from We Feed Raw also features ground animal bone. Whether chicken, turkey, or duck you can rest assured the bone is finely ground to ensure no harm comes to your pet when enjoying their raw patty. These bones offer extra sources of proteins and are high in nutritional value for your pets.

Reviews of the We Feed Raw Dog Food We Tried

While he enjoyed them all, our Husky’s favorite We Feed Raw flavors were the venison, duck, and turkey patties. Let’s take a look at all three so you’ll have a better idea of why he chose these as his go-to options.

    1. We Feed Raw Venison Patty

    We Feed Raw Venison Patty

Like with all of the We Feed Raw options, the venison patty stood out to us originally due to its uniqueness. Demon hadn’t tried venison before so we were excited for him to have the experience. As a pet parent, I was pleased with the fact it was complete and balanced nutrition for him. There are no filler, preservatives, or any of the bad things you want your dog to stay away from. It is also formulated by an animal nutritionist.

The We Feed Raw Venison Patty has approximately 53 kcal per ounce and each package weighs 16 ounces. The guaranteed analysis of the venison patty features 13% crude protein, 10.7% crude fat, 1% crude fiber, and 69.4% moisture. Proteins are the primary ingredients in this dog food with venison, beef heart, beef liver, beef kidney, and beef neck with the bones all included. You’ll also find flaxseed, folic acid, niacin, and a long list of essential vitamins and minerals.

    Pros
    • A taste our dog loved
    • Easy to feed
    • Complete and balanced nutrition
    • Features added vitamins and minerals
    Cons
    • Slightly higher in calories

    2. We Feed Raw Duck Patty

    We Feed Raw Duck Patty

The We Feed Raw duck patty was another our dog enjoyed. He was slightly hesitant at first, but after a bit of time he finally dove in. Like with the other foods provided by We Feed Raw, the nutrition in the duck patty is on point. The additional vitamins and minerals are excellent for pets no matter their life stage.

The We Feed Raw Duck Patty provides your pet with approximately 52 kcal per ounce. It also comes in a 16-ounce package. The guaranteed analysis of this patty reads 12.6% crude protein, 10.6% crude fat, 1% crude fiber, and 71.5% moisture. When it comes to ingredients, again protein leads the pack. These ingredients include duck, turkey gizzard, and turkey liver. You’ll also find thiamine, mononitrate, folic acid, and niacin along with several essential vitamins and minerals for the well-being of your pet.

    Pros
    • Great for all life stages
    • High nutritional value
    • No fillers or additives
    Cons
    • Our dog was reluctant to try at first but eventually came around

    3. We Feed Raw Turkey Patty

    We Feed Raw Turkey Patty

Our husky, Demon, has always been a huge turkey fan. The flavor of We Feed Raw’s turkey patty did not disappoint. He immediately dove in. Each time he enjoyed the turkey patty he made it clear that the taste was great and it was a flavor he would enjoy more than once.

The We Feed Raw Turkey Patty has approximately 42 kcal per ounce, which is a bit less than the venison and duck patties. The guaranteed analysis reads 12.8% crude protein, 6.6% crude fat, 1% crude fiber, and 73.7% moisture. The protein ingredients in this patty include turkey gizzard, turkey tails, turkey wings, and turkey liver. You’ll also find several essential vitamins and minerals, flaxseed, folic acid, and niacin.

    • Great packaging
    Cons
    • None that we experienced

Our Experience with We Feed Raw Dog Food

I was excited when I made it home from work to find a huge cardboard box sitting on my front porch with We Feed Raw printed on the side. I knew it was time to try something new with Demon, our husky and that it was going to be an adventure.

    Background

To understand why that was such a big deal, you need to understand a little about Demon. He gets his name honest. He is a complete handful. When he goes outside, he breaks out of the fence around the yard for no reason. I have to always walk him on a leash or use a runner while we’re out playing. This dog can be a terror one minute and the sweetest, most loveable bundle of fur the next. He’s momma’s boy, he knows it and uses it to his advantage. I have him spoiled. I admit it. So, when it comes to new things, he’s not the biggest fan. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t come around. Eventually.

    Packaging

On the day the dog food arrived, I wanted to read the materials and get things ready for him as soon as I could. Upon opening the box, the first thing I realized about the We Feed Raw company is that they truly care about their products and ensure they make it to our pets safely. Everything was nicely wrapped and protected. Ice was used to keep the frozen food patties at the proper temperature during delivery and it worked!

The second thing I realized was the sheer amount they had sent. That’s when I found the included feeding directions. The company took the time to take Demon’s size (yes, he’s a big boy) into consideration and explained how I should divide up the patties to make sure he received the proper portions. His daily dose was to be 24 ounces which is one and a half patties. This is very helpful to people new to the products and who want to do the best for their pets.

Per the included instructions, the frozen patties needed to thaw in the fridge for 12 hours before feeding. We were sent 21 patties in total. The box included 4 of the chicken, venison, and turkey patties. It also included 3 of the beef, lamb, and duck patties. I decided venison would be his first meal. It would be something new for him since he had never tried venison before.

    Trying It Out

The following morning I decided it would just be me and him to see how things went. Normally, my daughter or one of the other dogs may be around for his breakfast but I needed to see if he really liked the We Feed Raw food. The two of us decided to head outside alone. It was a nice day and he loves spending time out in the yard. Before we went, I divided up the food as the directions told me.

I decided to use his lead instead of the leash for this one and away we went. When Demon goes out, he goes wide open. Something was different this time though. He was very curious about what I had in my hand. Usually, food can wait when it comes to running. Not this time. I teased him a bit, as I do, then sat the bowl down. He offered it a few sniffs, then immediately dug in. I was shocked. The idea of him eating instead of playing or running was unheard of. I knew then that he was a fan.

I didn’t notice any issues with Demon and this dog food. Some flavors he was slower to try in the beginning. This isn’t unheard of with him. His normal reaction when he doesn’t like something is to turn his nose up at it and do the famous husky arguing to let me know. That didn’t happen with this dog food. What did happen was him finishing all his food, not having any issues with it, and getting excited each time he saw it in his bowl. For me, I saw a company that cared for my pet and the foods he was eating. I feel it was a win all the way around.

    Final Thoughts

As you can see, We Feed Raw is a great choice for anyone who wants to take their dog on a journey to eating better. With this raw dog food subscription, the meals you need will arrive at your doorstep. Inside you’ll find tasty food your dogs will love and the guidance you’ll need to help your pet on their way to becoming happier and healthier. If you’re debating on whether We Feed Raw is an option for you, give it a shot. Our experience with them was amazing!
