Man rescued after attempting to aid dogs on partially frozen lake

The Associated Press

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, N.J. – A man trying to help two dogs that wandered onto a partially frozen lake in Gloucester County on Sunday had to be pulled to safety himself by firefighters.

When Gary Kayser, 47, saw the Labrador retrievers _ who do not belong to him _ in Malaga Lake around 3:30 p.m., he got in his canoe and went toward them.

“He was able to get one dog, and the other one got out on his own,” Patrolman Timothy Creamer told the Courier-Post of Cherry Hill. “His canoe flipped over once, and he was able to get back in. Then it flipped over again, and he had to be rescued.”
