Thank you for this :) We have two Shibas we rescued two years ago, one very cuddly, one who is always on high alert, anxious, panics at falling leaves… she has cuddly moments, but is more stand-offish. We have been approaching her behavior as something that needs to be adjusted, so to speak. We have used many of Victoria Stillwell’s methods, and it has helped to a certain degree. Reading your article confirms what I have suspected- this ancient breed is simply being who she is :) We can adjust her environment to help her be as less anxious as possible, however all the other behavior is simply her being who she is :) It’s a privilege to share our lives with these amazing companion animals!!
