What to Expect from Away’s Pet Carrier

The Pet Carrier was delivered to my doorstep in a large cardboard box with Away branding on the top lid. Inside the box, the carrier was wrapped in more Away-branded sealed plastic wrap.

Inside the carrier was a small pamphlet with instructions on how to buckle in The Pet Carrier to your car for road travel, as well as cleaning instructions. It also included instructions on how to assemble a pet hotel using the box the carrier came in—a nice touch by the folks at Away!

Quality

The Pet Carrier is definitely designed to exude high quality. Not only is it a sleek and snazzy looking carrier, you can tell it’s made of quality materials made to withstand the wear and tear of long travel days. Its exterior is made of a water-resistant nylon material, nicely complemented with leather detailing. The interior is lined with a plush sherpa material to provide your pet with a comfortable resting pad.

Other thoughtful details like the retractable privacy screen, mesh paneling for ventilation, various pockets and compartments, and two different entry ways for your pet’s easy in-and-out access all show the level of meticulous craftsmanship that went into making this carrier. For all of these reasons, The Pet Carrier deserves a 5 out of 5 for quality.

Variety

The one thing I would have liked to see more of with The Pet Carrier is variety. Being only available in two colors—black and “coast” blue—makes the choices a bit limited for pet owners. Though there is the customization option available to embroider up to 3 letters on the carrier in your color of choice, because of the limited options available, The Pet Carrier scored a 2 out of 5 for variety.

Ease of Use

Hand in hand with The Pet Carrier’s high quality is its comfort and ease of use. Its lightweight yet sturdy design—weighing less than five pounds (excluding the weight of your pet)—makes it very convenient to bring around with you on the go.

Its trolley sleeve allows it to slip on and secure easily to all other Away luggage (and most other luggage in general), so that you can move about that much easier, giving you one less thing to handle on those long travel days. Another impressive feature is the fastening latches that use the seat belts for road travel—whether for short car rides or long road trips. The Pet Carrier sits upright and sturdy and attaches to the car seatbelt, as well as to your pet’s collar, making it a secure and convenient car seat for them.

All these thoughtful design and functionality features earned The Pet Carrier a 5 out of 5 for its extreme ease of use.

Is Away’s Pet Carrier a Good Value?

While priced higher than most pet carriers in the market, The Pet Carrier is a great value for the money. With its high-quality design and high-performance functionality, you are getting a top-of-the-line product that is sure to provide both you and your pet comfort, ease, and convenience while on the go. Especially as it is airline approved, you can enjoy the peace of mind of knowing your carrier is cosigned by both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and The Center for Pet Safety (CPS), meeting all their requirements and safety standards.

For these reasons and more, The Pet Carrier’s score of 5 out of 5 for value is well-deserved.

Our Experience With Away’s Pet Carrier

So far, Coco and I are thoroughly enjoying The Pet Carrier. Being both an avid traveler and an animal lover, I made the choice to purposely hold off on getting a dog for many years while I was traveling around the world—solo most of the time, as that’s when I felt most free and unrestricted. When I adopted Coco a couple years ago, there was quite a bit of adjustment for me with regard to my traveling. Whether it was finding a trusted sitter to watch her while I was away, or finding a way to safely and conveniently bring her with me, there were suddenly quite a few more things to consider whenever planning to get away.

Fortunately, The Pet Carrier by Away has provided a solution to some of my newfound obstacles. Now I can rest assured that if ever needing/wanting to bring Coco along for the ride, I have a solid and dependable carrier that makes it possible to do so as seamlessly as possible. It’s extremely well designed with so many thoughtful touches that make it so functional and easy to use. My favorite function is how easily it secures to the seat belts in my car, giving Coco a sturdy yet comfortable car seat for car rides (her favorite).

While I have yet to take Coco with me anywhere by air travel, knowing that I now have a reliable airline-approved carrier that is lightweight and specially made for smooth, stress-free travel with a pet makes me more excited to plan a trip that I can bring her with me on soon. That, plus knowing that she’ll be both secure and comfortable in The Pet Carrier for her first time flying gives me a few less major things to worry about.

Coco wasted no time getting comfy and familiar with The Pet Carrier—even going inside and setting up camp there on her own a few times! As a small-ish Chihuahua-Terrier mix weighing in at 15 pounds, it is perfectly designed for a dog of her size. She is a big fan of the plush sherpa-lined interior, and its spaciousness for her to comfortably move around within. Though she has another car seat already, she now happily chooses The Pet Carrier over it for car rides—with much enthusiasm.

Knowing how much Coco loves The Pet Carrier for everyday car rides and errands around town (as I bring her just about everywhere with me), it gives me immense peace of mind knowing that she will easily adapt to it for her first-ever air travel trip—whenever and wherever that ends up being. For a traveling dog mom like me, The Pet Carrier by Away is well worth its bang for buck.
