Guide Dog Discrimination

Australian ABC News Online reports that not all Australians are dog-friendly.

A Sydney man is taking action against three city establishments that allegedly refused to let him in because he was accompanied by a guide dog.

Ben Felton says that in April he was turned away from The Observer Hotel, Jacksons on George and the Basement.

He has lodged a complaint with the Human Rights and Equal Opportunity Commission.

His lawyer, Jo Schulman, says Mr Felton is a respected member of the community who deserved to be treated better.

“He’s rowed for Australia and also played cricket for Australia and he just wanted a night out with his friends, he wanted to go and have a couple of drinks and his night was cut short because of his disability and because he was accompanied by a guide dog.”
