Long on Love: A Valentine’s Day Ode to My Doxie Sweethearts (with Video)

L-O-V-E - Draper and Rue

Welcome to the Wednesday Dogs of Dogster! Every Wednesday, we share a story from one of our Dogsters. This week is about Meagan and her dynamic duo of dachshunds, Draper and Rue.

In honor of Valentine’s Day this week, I decided to write a poem and a little song dedicated to my sweet little loves, Draper and Rue. Since I am no poet or songwriter, I opted to write these little odes as a fun play on famous, well-known melodies and “pupified” them!

These were super fun to think up and I hope you enjoy singing along to them. Maybe they’ll inspire you to write your own little melodies for your pets this Valentine’s Day!

Let us know in the comments below if you’ve ever written a song or poem for your fur babies, and please share them with us if you have! We’d love to hear them!

My dearest weens,

Roses are red, and so are your toys,
My Dachshund duo, you bring endless joy.

Your tiny legs scurry, your tails wag with flair,
Two little hearts bursting with love and care.

Your barks fill the air, and you snuggle in tight,
Every day with you both is just pure delight.

Through blankets you burrow, to make the perfect nest,
Two tiny adventurers, who know me the best.

With treats in my pocket, and kisses on cue,
My world spins around both Draper and Rue.

Draper, my charmer, so dapper and sweet,

While Miss Rue brings the sass with her speedy little feet.

From morning sprints to lazy day naps,
Draper and Rue, you fill our life with laughs.

With floppy ears and plenty to share,
Every moment’s sweeter with you as a pair!

Draper and Rue

L-O-V-E

(To the tune of “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole)

L is for the way you love to dig
O
is for your odd-shaped body—long but quick!
V
is very vocal, when you bark at all the neighbours
E
is for your eager nose that sniffs out all the flavors

Draper runs and Rue is close behind
Side by side, their tails in perfect time
Two in mischief, always
Digging holes and racing through hallways
Draper and Rue were made to love each other!

L is for your legs so short and sweet
O
is how you own the couch and steal my seat
V is when you vanish underneath the covers
E
is every bite you steal while fooling all the others

Draper, Rue, you fill my days with cheer
Joy, joy, joy is all you bring when you are near
Two best friends, unshaken
Side by side, no path forsaken
Love was made for Draper & Rue!
