25 Amazing Dog World Records (Updated in 2026)

If you ask any dog owner, they’ll tell you that their pup is (unofficially) “the greatest dog in the world” and “the cutest pup that’s ever lived.”

However, there are other records that are less subjective. There are truly amazing canine-related world records out there, and they range from the astonishing to the astonishingly weird.

We assembled 25 of the weirdest, wildest, and most incredible canine world records here. Enjoy!

The 25 Amazing World Records About Dogs

1. World’s Longest Dog Tail

The longest tail on a dog belongs to Keon, an Irish Wolfhound that lives in Belgium. Keon’s tail is a whopping 30 inches long! We can’t imagine a more efficient way to clean off your coffee table than simply inviting Keon into your living room.

2. Tallest Dog Ever

Zeus, an American Great Dane, was 44 inches tall—with his feet on the ground! He also weighed 155 pounds and ate 15 pounds of food a week.

3. Longest Dog Tongue

A Boxer named Brandy had a 17-inch tongue. Brandy lived in Michigan with her family, and she had a tongue so long that she probably had to worry about tripping over it. The good news is that if she wanted to kiss you, you didn’t even need to be in the same room for her to do so.

4. Longest Ears

This one shouldn’t come as much surprise. The longest ears ever belonged to a Bloodhound. Tigger had ears that were each nearly 14 inches long. There is no word on whether he was able to throw them over his shoulder like a Continental soldier, however.

5. Highest Jump

In 2017, a female Greyhound named Feather cleared a height of 75.5 inches, officially making her the highest-jumping dog in the world. It can be hard enough to train a dog not to jump on you—how in the world do you teach them not to jump over you?

6. Most Frisbees Caught and Held in the Mouth at One Time

A dog named Rose can catch and hold seven Frisbees in her mouth at the same time, provided that they’re thrown one at a time. Why would she ever need to hold seven Frisbees in her mouth simultaneously, you ask? To achieve immortality on this list, of course.

7. Longest Wave Surfed

On October 18, 2011, the course of human history changed forever. An Australian Kelpie named Abbie Girl surfed 351.7 feet, a record that has never been bested.

8. Fastest 30 Meters on a Scooter

A French Sheepdog named Norman set this record (20.77 seconds) in 2013. It does raise a few questions, though. Are there dogs that are faster on a scooter at other distances? Can other pups do the 30-meter dash faster on, say, rollerblades?

9. Smallest Service Dog

This honor belongs to Cupcake, a 15-inch Chihuahua from New Jersey. While we salute Cupcake for her service, we have to ask why it matters that she’s so small—unless of course, the service that she provides is acting as a guard dog.

10. Most Bottles Recycled

A British Labrador called Tubby holds this record, as he helped recycle more than 26,000 plastic bottles over 6 years.

11. Fastest Time to Retrieve a Person From Water

In 2013, a dog with the impressive moniker of Jack the Black vom Muehlrad fetched a person from 25 meters away in just 1 minute, 36 seconds.

12. Most Tennis Balls Held in the Mouth

A Golden Retriever named Finley was capable of holding six tennis balls in his mouth simultaneously. This broke the record of five, held by another Golden Retriever named Augie.

13. Most Balls Caught With the Paws in 1 Minute

This record is held by a Beagle in Japan named Purin, which caught 14 balls in 60 seconds. This isn’t Purin’s only record, though—she also holds the mark for the fastest 10 meters traveled on a ball by a dog (9.45 seconds) and most rope skips with her human in 60 seconds (58 skips).

14. Most Jumps Over a Moving Human Leg in 30 Seconds

The record for this is 38, set by a Jack Russell Terrier named Daifuku.

15. Fastest Time to Pop 100 Balloons

A whippet named Loughren Christmas Star holds this record at 28.22 seconds. But how long did it take Toby’s owners to inflate all those balloons?

16. Most Steps Walked Down by a Dog Facing Forward Balancing a Glass of Water

The record is 10 steps, held by an Australian Shepherd/Border Collie mix named Sweet Pea.

17. Loudest Bark by a Group of Dogs

This record was set in Washington Park, Colorado. A group of 76 dogs collectively produced a bark of 124 dB, which is about as loud as a rock concert.

18. Oldest Dog

The most recent holder of the title of world’s oldest dog was Bobi, a Rafeiro do Alentejo from Portugal, who was said to have lived for 31 years and 165 days before passing away on October 21, 2023. However, in February 2024, Guinness World Records revoked Bobi’s title due to a lack of conclusive evidence verifying his age. Due to this, the record still belongs to Bluey, an Australian Cattle Dog who lived for 29 years and 5 months, from June 7, 1910, to November 14, 1939, making him the officially recognized longest-living dog ever. As you might expect, Bluey’s owners reported that this was not nearly long enough.

19. Largest Dog Wedding Ceremony

On May 19, 2007, in Littleton, Colorado, 178 pairs of dogs tied the knot at the same time.

20. Most Expensive Dog

In 2011, a red Tibetan Mastiff named Big Splash was sold to a Chinese dog enthusiast for the robust price of $1.5 million. Big Splash reportedly eats a hearty diet of chicken and beef.

21. Dog With Largest Repertoire of Tricks

A toy Poodle named Chanda-Leah knew and could perform an incredible 469 different tricks, including knowing her multiplication tables, playing the piano, and riding a skateboard.

22. Most Dogs Walked Simultaneously

In Australia on June 17, 2018, a professional dog trainer named Maria Harman walked 36 dogs at the same time.

23. Most Dogs Attending a Film Screening

On June 8, 2019, 120 dogs showed up to watch a screening of “The Secret Life of Pets 2” in Sao Paulo, Brazil. The event was arranged by the studio behind the film, Universal Pictures, and while it was good publicity, the dogs described the character development as “ruff.”

24. Longest Solid Object Swallowed by a Dog

In December 2000, a Collie/Staffordshire Bull Terrier mix named Kyle swallowed a 15-inch bread knife (if you have to ask why Kyle swallowed the bread knife, you obviously haven’t spent much time around dogs). The knife was successfully removed and Kyle went on to lead a long, happy life.

25. Most Wins of the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest

An African Sand Dog named Chi-Chi earns this dubious distinction, having won the contest seven different times. Chi-Chi’s grandson, Rascal, carried on the family tradition by winning the title himself later.
