Some Ideal Human Companions:
History:One of the earliest of the modern hybrids, the Cockapoo first appeared in the 1960s. A cross between the Cocker Spaniel (American or English) and the Poodle, the Cockapoo has been around so long that, unlike other hybrids, many Cockapoos are bred from two Cockapoos (called a "multi-generation crossing") instead of being bred directly from purebred Cockers and Poodles. Some breeders believe the Cockapoo's hardiness and vibrancy come from "hybrid vigor," which is when a healthier dog results from the crossing of two purebreds. The Look of the Cockapoo:Depending on the Cockapoo’s parents, it can come in a variety of sizes and looks. For the most part, it has a squarely built frame covered in three different types of coat: tightly curled, medium curled and flat. The Cockapoo can come in any solid color and a wide range of multi-colored patterns. Its head is usually round with alert and kind eyes and well-feathered ears that hang close. Sometimes the tail is docked. If not, it is usually carried high or slightly curled. What They're Like to Live With:Over the last decade, the Cockapoo has surged to popularity based on a number of factors, including its friendly personality, loyalty and cuteness. Like many hybrids, the Cockapoo is popular for not shedding too profusely - a bonus for allergy sufferers - and for its limitless energy and good health.
The Cockapoo is the perfect family dog. It’s clever and cuddly enough to win over the adults, and it's lively and active enough to keep the kids happy. Known for having a good sense of humor, the Cockapoo sometimes likes to clown around—especially when it has an audience. Overall, this is a big-hearted, fun and loyal canine companion.
If you live in an apartment, the Cockapoo is an excellent choice for a pet. It is adaptable and has excellent manners. However, if you live out in the country or on a farm, the Cockapoo will be equally happy. It has loads of energy and curiosity. And like its ancestors, it loves to be surrounded by nature. The Cockapoo will live anywhere as long as it gets daily exercise and plenty of attention. Leave this canine alone for too long and it might get lonely or depressed.
