Review Summary

Our Final Verdict

We give Honest Paws CBD products a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars.

If you’ve ever owned a cat or dog, you know how much they love to play. But both dogs and cats can suffer from anxiety, joint pain, or decreased mobility due to arthritis.

This is where Honest Paws CBD products can help. Honest Paws offers a number of different CBD products for dogs and cats, including CBD oil and CBD-infused treats. Many owners report their dog’s arthritis or insomnia due to pain/anxiety was gone within days of starting to use Honest Paws products.

My pets and I found Honest Paws products to be tasty and effective.

Honest Paws is a little different from some other CBD companies in that they have a wide distributor network throughout the United States – many of their products can be sourced locally, meaning you may be able to search their distributor list and find some relief for your pets today.

Who Makes Honest Paws CBD Products and Where Are They Produced?

Honest Paws CBD products are manufactured through their own sourcing, and all their products have scannable QR codes that take you to a page where you can look up the third party lab analysis showing the quality, purity, and strength of the specific lot you purchased. This provides peace of mind to me as a pet owner, as I know that the products are high quality and that Honest Paws is transparent about the quality of their products.

Which Types of Pets are Honest Paws CBD Products Best Suited For?

The CBD products manufactured by Honest Paws are most suited to dogs and cats. Their treats are formulated, flavored, and dosed for these animals, although the oils and tinctures could be used to correctly dose CBD for other pet species as well. In my experience, dogs thoroughly loved the Mobility Soft Chews, which are poultry flavored, and Peanut Butter Flavored treats.

    Discussion of the Primary Ingredients

This is one area where Honest Paws stands out from competitors. They have an Ingredients page that clearly lists ingredients used in Honest Paws products, with photos of each and descriptions as necessary. They do not list every ingredient used in every product, but looking at the ingredients listed on their packaging for each product I received indicates they do not use soy products and tend to stick to natural ingredients wherever possible.

The main active ingredient in the products I received is CBD, or cannabidiol. Cannabidiol is an extract of the hemp plant, also known as marijuana. The difference between this extract and marijuana is that this extract contains almost none of the chemicals responsible for causing what’s commonly called a “high.”

CBD does not cause your pets (or you!) to become high, and it is not legally classified as an illegal drug like marijuana.

If you want to learn more about CBD’s effects on pets, especially dogs, look for quality resources like the American Kennel Club or Today’s Veterinary Nurse. Long story short, CBD is likely to be effective for several ailments related to mobility and joint disease as well as anxiety and discomfort or pain. It is widely used with almost no reports of toxicity when used at appropriate doses, although it’s always wise to ask your veterinarian before using a product with your pet, especially if they’re already on medications.

    Flavor and Dosing

I have two dogs, a Catahoula and an Australian Shepherd. The Catahoula is older and more laid back, and the Aussie is, well, an Aussie: Spastic, loud, and full of boundless energy.

Both dogs like the peanut butter treats and the poultry mobility treats. Of all the products we tried, the mobility treats were most favored.

Dosing the treats is easy enough. The doses are listed on the backs of the packaging and are easy to read and understand. I have never observed that either of my dogs experience pain or discomfort on a regular basis – they’re both outside dogs and run around on grass most of the day, or relax and sleep in the sunshine. That said, my Aussie’s spasticity and barking at everything under the sun did relax quite a bit on the CBD. He laid down and napped for half an hour and seemed somewhat gentle for the rest of the afternoon. My Catahoula is almost always relaxed, and that didn’t change.

Obviously, the tincture is more difficult to dose and administer than the treats. If you can find a treat that works for your pet, I recommend this over the tincture to avoid dosing errors and save yourself a little frustration. That said, the tincture can be put on food or a little meat. I used about an ounce of beef liver with my dogs and both found that quite tasty even with the tincture.

    Cost

Cost is likely to be your biggest concern with Honest Paws. Of all the CBD products I’ve used with my pets, Honest Paws is the most expensive – and not by a small margin. Compared to the competition, Honest Paws products cost anywhere from 2–5 times as much. While I found their products to be of the highest quality and well-liked by my pets, I cannot say I found them to be 2–5 times as high quality, or to work 2–5 times as well. My dogs like the less expensive CBD products I’ve used and they appeared to be about as effective.

    Product Availability

Honest Paws stands out from any other products I’ve used in the past in that they are available locally for many people. Their distribution network is nationwide and if I wanted to buy more of their products today, I would be able to do so by hopping in my car and driving to a nearby CBD shop. This is very handy for anyone who wants a very high-quality product today for a dog or cat needing immediate relief. I would anticipate this is also part of why the products are more expensive, and for some pet owners being able to locally source these products and see them before you buy them may be worth the trade-off on cost.

    Peanut Butter Packets

This is a unique formulation from Honest Paws I hadn’t seen before. It is a peanut butter CBD concoction that comes in squeeze packets. I think this product may appeal to some pet owners, but with my big country dogs, I found it to be less convenient than a treat. It’s listed as an “on-the-go” product on the bag, but I had to put it in my dog’s food or I would have been bathed with a six-inch slobbery tongue trying to administer it to either of my dogs. While I’ve experienced worse things, it’s easier for me to just go with a treat.

Reviews of the Honest Paws CBD Products We Tried

    1. Honest Paws Mobility CBD Soft Chews

Honest Paws Mobility CBD Soft Chews

I really liked the Honest Paws Mobility CBD Soft Chews. These smell almost good enough to eat! They are soft, moist, and have a rubber-like texture. My aging Catahoula, Penny, has lost some teeth and has a hard time with hard or tough foods. She really liked chewing these. The dosing is ridiculously easy: 1 chew for dogs under 25 pounds, 2 for 25–50 pounds, and 3 for dogs over 50 pounds. There is no dust, grease, or gunk that gets left on your hands after handling these treats, and they were easily my favorite product to handle and my dog’s favorite product to eat.

The treats are remarkably uniform in size, and very few of them were broken. This gives me confidence that my dog would get the same even dose each time with each treat.

    2. Honest Paws Calm CBD Bites

    Honest Paws Calm CBD Bites

These are peanut-butter flavored discs or chips that contain CBD. While both my dogs visibly salivated and leapt for the mobility treats, they both took these treats, walked a few feet away, and set them down to sniff them and even paw them a bit before deciding they were food. This isn’t rejection – they show the same reaction the first time I introduce them to bones from a new animal, but it does mean they don’t consider it with the same zest as a meat flavored product.

The chips tend to break apart against each other in the package, so I would set these somewhere they won’t get dropped or jostled.

    3. Honest Paws CALM Peanut Butter Pouches

Honest Paws CALM Peanut Butter Pouches

I found this product to be unusual. It’s a CBD-infused peanut butter in a squeeze pouch, marketed as an on-the-go product. My impression on looking at it and handling it is that you’re supposed to take it out and squeeze the contents out for your dog if you’re out and about and that you can take just a few of the squeeze packets in a pocket or purse.

In my experience, that’s not feasible. The product is very peanut butter-like, but some of the oil separates out from the solids and you’re left with cakey, dried peanut butter-like solids and very liquid oils that run out. I would not want to use this product in public or in my vehicle without quite a few wipes or paper towels handy.

The other factor is trying to give it to your dog. They lick it and lick it and get it and slobber all over your hand.

That said, taking one packet with me outside to feed them is very easy if I just want to squeeze it into their food, which they liked quite a lot.

This is a good product and well-liked by dogs, but I believe its best use is different from that for which it is advertised. If I needed an on-the-go product, I’d put a few mobility chews in a Ziploc bag or take the small bag it comes in with me.

Our Experience With Honest Paws Pet CBD Products

My dogs liked all the products we tried. We both favored the mobility chews. I liked them best for their ease of dosing – my dogs like them for their flavor and texture.

The mobility chews are easy for even my aging Catahoula to eat with a softer mouth and some missing teeth, which was excellent. She is a sweetheart and watching her enjoy chewing on those treats was a treat for me too.

All the tested products had a calming effect on my Australian Shepherd when used according to the dosing table on the back of the product. He is spastic, barks at every little thing, and loves to run for miles a day. Seeing him chill out and nap for half an hour is a testament to the efficacy of the CBD in these products.

As mentioned, I was not a huge fan of the peanut butter spread as an on-the-go product. It seemed difficult to use that way, left me covered in peanut butter and dog slobber, and the product separated out in the pouches into peanut solids and very liquidy oils. I had a lot more success with this by squirting it into dog food. Both dogs liked their food more with this in it and I felt confident they were getting both the solid and oily parts, ensuring they got the full dose of CBD.

    Conclusion

Honest Paws CBD products are fantastic quality. The company offers a wide distribution network, meaning it’s likely you can drive to pick up these products somewhere locally. While the products are expensive, they are well-formulated, easy to dose, and backed by third-party lab reports that are available via scanning a QR code on each bag or bottle. I think they’d be an excellent choice for any pet owner who wants to ensure they’re getting a top-quality, top-dollar product to help relieve any pain, discomfort, mobility problems, or anxiety their pets may have.
