Wooden dogs pop up around Sweden
LINKOPING, Sweden — Guerilla artists have been decorating Swedish traffic circles with wooden dog statues — and cats and snails have also appeared at some rotaries.
The wooden dog movement has now been recognized. The Ostergotland County Museum announced an exhibit of wooden dogs from Linkoping, a suburb south of Stockholm where the movement began, The Local newspaper reported.
The first wooden dog appeared in March, two months after vandals damaged a concrete dog sculpture by artist Stina Opitz. The wooden dog occupied the place where the Opitz work had stood.
Since then 60 dogs have showed up in Linkoping.
“Now it’s spread to other towns and counties all over Sweden — it has become something of a popular movement,” Lena Wiklund of the Ostergotland Museum said.
