This is really amusing. To my layman’s eyes, the dog looks like he “gets it,” and is having fun. But what do I know? I thought that the dogs who howl at the theme from Law & Order are having fun too, but according to concert pianist and dog music specialist Lisa Spector, they are clearly distressed.
Fortunately, Lisa, who is the pianist for the acclaimed dog music CD series Through a Dog’s Ear, reinforces what I thought about the dog in the above video: This guy really likes what he’s doing! Here’s what she told me about his piano “playing”:
“I found this very entertaining. It appears obvious that the dog is realizing that he is creating the sound by using his paw. His howls appear to be delighted and he keeps pressing the keyboard because he wants more of the sound, or maybe he’s just crying out for a piano teacher? (I know of a good one if he’s looking.) I was quite hysterical when he lies down on the keyboard at the end. It seemed that he just couldn’t get enough keyboard sound.”
Thanks Lisa! And I also send an arf out to one of my favorite other dog blogs, Life with Dogs, for discovering this gem of a video! Woof to Nigel and crew!
