Sue Garr had almost given up hope of ever finding her beloved Australian Shepherd mix, Millie. This weekend marked more than three weeks since Millie disappeared from her Salt Lake City home.

Then the phone rang. It was the call Garr had been praying for: Millie was alive. Police told her Millie had been living in a storm drain 10 feet underground. According to an AP story, it was a good 10 degrees warmer down there than it was outside. The resourceful canine probably survived on a diet of mice, rats, and garbage, and drank the water in the drain.

Garr said Millie was overjoyed to see her and her husband again. And the feeling was mutual. Except Millie needed a bath, badly. She got one. Then she downed two bowls of food and fell fast asleep.
