Loyal dog guards owner’s body for three days after park attack
RICHARD ELIAS

POLICE have confirmed that a man whose body was guarded by his pet dog for three days had been murdered.

Chico, a Staffordshire bull cross, loyally stayed at his master’s side after he was fatally attacked in a north Glasgow park a week ago.

It was only after the dog found his way back home that the alarm was raised and John Devine’s body found.

The 45-year-old was last seen alive more than two weeks ago but it was not until last Monday that his corpse was discovered in Cowlairs Park, Saracen.

It was found after a passer-by, who had seen Chico standing guard at the bushes for the past three days, noticed he was not there any more.

Upon going to investigate, the man found Devine’s body partially hidden in the undergrowth.

At the same time, a neighbour of the victim, who lived on Gadshill Street in the nearby Royston district, was alerted by Chico’s barking when the dog returned home.
