DOZENS of pet dogs have been found roaming Glasgow’s streets after being frightened by fireworks. The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals picked up 70 lost dogs in a week and the charity’s Cardonald kennels are bursting at the seams.
Yobs who let off fireworks in the streets in the run-up to Bonfire Night are being blamed for scaring the pets, causing them to run away while off their leads during walks with their owners.
Animal welfare experts appealed to dog owners to be extra vigilant and keep their pets on leads.
Cardonald centre manager Peter Fleming said: “We have the same problem every year but this year it is particularly bad. We’ve had 70 dogs brought in over seven days. Luckily we’ve been able to find a place for all of them but we really are operating at full capacity. The dogs being brought in are quite distressed, although thankfully we’ve not had to sedate any of them.”
