Stop The Romanian Government From Killing Stray Dogs
The government of Romania is taking a very hard line on stray dogs — they’re killing them all. That’s right. Not catch and find homes, or catch, neuter and release or even catch and keep in a shelter. Nope, that just wouldn’t go as far as the Romanian government wants.
To give the other side I should note that the Romanian government decided on this measure after a Japanese tourist was killed in an incident with stray dogs.
A number of animal welfare groups have joined together to protest the mass killing of the abandoned street dogs. Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, Dogs Trust and North Shore Animal League, in conjunction with Wet nose Animal Aid are urging people to contact the Romanian Embassy in the UK (though I guess US Dogsters could also contact the Embassy here as well) to take appropriate action and stop this appalling method of canine population control. The groups have expressed their sorrow to the family of the Japanese tourist but believe that his was an isolated incident and no cause for wholesale slaughter of this magnitude.
