A Gere and his Dog: Richard’s next project

Nothing says “You’re back, Richard, you’re back” like a movie co-starring a dog. Actually, starring a dog. Co-starring Richard Gere.

But that’s what Richard Gere, hot off The Hoax, is up to. Hachiko: A Dog’s Story is the title. It’s based on a Japanese film. And that, in turn, was based on a true story. There’s a statue to the dog in Tokyo. And a square named for the statue.

The most faithful Akita ever?

From Variety…”Gere will play a college professor who takes in a dog he finds abandoned. Both man and hound find their lives changed forever as they form an unbreakable bond. Scripted by Stephen P. Lindsay, the project is based on a true story and inspired by the 1987 Japanese film “Hachiko monogatari.”
