St. Bernard Falls Out A Window

Sometimes you wonder if you can make up odder things than happen in real life. I got this story from Yahoo News.

WARSAW (AFP) – A hapless Polish pedestrian was left bruised and battered after he acted as a safety net for a 50-kilogramme (110 pound) Saint Bernard dog that had been thrown out of a second-storey window by its drunken owners in southern Poland.

“Despite the weight of the dog, the passerby only sustained a few scratches and did not need to go to hospital,” police commissioner Grzegorz Wierzbicki told AFP by telephone Wednesday from the southern Polish town of Sosnowiec.

“The dog wasn’t hurt either,” he added.

The Saint Bernard has been taken to an animal shelter while its owners, a couple in their 30s, were taken into police custody.

The man was 10 times over the alcohol limit for driving a vehicle, while the woman, who is pregnant, was “paralytic”, the police said.

The couple’s three-year-old girl, who was in the apartment when the dog was chucked out the window, was placed in care.

I wonder if the little girl would have been as lucky as the St. Bernard? Also, I have to commend the Polish authorities for arresting the couple! Why can’t we be that enlightened in North America?
