A 72-year-old woman in Camden, NY had a car accident after falling asleep at the wheel.
Lucille Willson, the driver, struck a stop sign after her car went off the road and left her with serious injuries. No one was around when the accident took place so it didn’t get reported, leaving Willson alone overnight with her terrier Maggie.
CAMDEN -Authorities are crediting a woman’s dog with keeping her conscious overnight after she was trapped in her vehicle following a car accident.
Willson was trapped overnight with her pet Terrier, Maggie, who helped keep her conscious, deputies said. The pair was extricated from the vehicle with the use of hydraulic equipment.
Willson was transported to St. Elizabeth Medical Center with severe bleeding, exposure and compound fractures to her legs, deputies said. Willson was later transferred to University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was listed in serious condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Her terrier was not injured and was placed with friends of the family, deputies said.
The list of reasons to own a dog keeps getting longer, not only are they man’s best friend, they can fill in for a paramedic in a pinch.
Way to go Maggie!
