We’ve reported in the past about Michael Vick saying he would like a dog as a pet. His desire to have a dog seems to be growing stronger. He says he feels especially bad because he knows that his involvement in dogfighting and the surrounding abuse is preventing his daughters from having a dog.
Here’s what the Philadelphia Eagles star player told TheGrio.com in an interview that aired yesterday.
“I would love to get another dog in the future. I think it would be a big step for me in the rehabilitation process.
“I think just to have a pet in my household and to show people that I genuinely care, and my love and my passion for animals; I think it would be outstanding. If I ever have the opportunity again I will never take it for granted. I miss having a dog right now. I wish I could. My daughters miss having one, and thats the hardest thing: telling them that we cant have one because of my actions.”
Vick said he tells the children he mentors (through the Humane Society of the United States) that “without going to prison I would have never changed as an individual and as a person. And coming out of prison I was a totally different person.
He says “[I’m a] better player, [a] better person. More patient, more persistent and a willingness to, set high goals and high standards, not only on the football field, but in life. And in so many ways, I thank God for changing my life and keeping me healthy and putting me on the path to where I can redeem myself and make a great comeback,” Vick said. “I thank God for the people who came into my life and gave me a second chance and was willing to give me another opportunity.”
