International Doodle Dog Day is a special day set aside by dog lovers to honor and pamper all the Poodle dog mixes worldwide. The day for this special international event is May 1, 2024, but it’s also held on May 1st every year.
The event was created by Ripley and Rue and is a day that was invented for Doodle pet parents everywhere to take their Doodles to the park, on long daily walks, or to spoil them with extra treats and toys.
However, this isn’t a day just for Doodles. It’s a day for Doodle Dog Pet parents to get together, socialize, and get advice from other pet owners about the pets they love. We’ll tell you everything you need to know about International Doodle Dog Day and more below.
International Doodle Dog Day: What Is it?
As a Doodle parent, you already consider your Doodle part of your family. These adorable creatures deserve much more than the occasional treat and praise. That’s the idea behind International Doodle Day. It gives Doodle owners a chance to celebrate being pet parents to their remarkable canines.
International Doodle Dog Day, also known as IDDD, was started by Jenny North in 2015. She is one of the creators of Ripley and Rue, which is a dog merchandise store that targets and caters to women’s niche markets.
A fun fact is that the names Ripley and Rue came from Jenny North’s two favorite Doodle Dogs. The best thing about IDDD is that it celebrates all Doodles, not just a select type.
What Exactly Is a Doodle Dog?
A Doodle is any mix of a Standard Poodle, a Miniature Poodle, or a Toy Poodle and another breed. Doodles are becoming increasingly popular due to Wally Conron breeding a Labrador with a Standard Poodle. The pair produced three puppies, which he dubbed Labradoodles. Though he told the world that the name was a joke, it didn’t take long for people everywhere to want to adopt a Labradoodle into their families, and the rest is history.
Today, there are over 44 Poodle mixes in different shapes and sizes. You can adopt everything from a Sheepadoodle to a Mini English Goldendoodle and quite a few in between. International Doodle Dog Day celebrates them all and their pet parents. So, how can you join and celebrate your Doodle Dog? First, give a Doodle a forever home, then follow the steps below.
How To Celebrate IDDD if You Don’t Own a Doodle
There are quite a few ways that you can celebrate IDDD day. You can volunteer at one of your area’s events, at a local animal shelter, or donate to shelters and organizations to help all dogs, not just the Doodles.
If you know all about Doodle Dogs but have never adopted one, you can make May 1st memorable and give a Doodle Dog a forever home. It’s best to find and adopt a Doodle Dog from a rescue shelter instead of going to a breeder; you’ll give one more dog a chance at a loving forever home and a better life.
Tips for Celebrating International Doodle Dog Day
Many pet parents have to work or can’t attend the official events for IDDD. Below, we’ll give you a few things you can do to celebrate.
