The Beagle is a popular dog breed that’s loved by many around the world. While they may be compact, they have big and spunky personalities that bring great joy, laughter, and entertainment to people around them.

So, it’s no surprise that many famous Beagles have made their way into movies, books, and television shows. Some Beagles even have social media accounts with tens of thousands of followers. Let’s get to know some of these globally famous Beagles.

1. Snoopy

Snoopy is probably the most iconic and famous Beagle in the world. He first debuted on October 4, 1950, and his original drawings were inspired by one of Charles M. Schulz’s own dogs, Spike.

Snoopy first started as a small dog adopted by Charlie Brown, but he’s now more famous than his owner in some parts of the world. He has a rich imagination, and many comic strip stories revolve around his fantasies and imaginary adventures.


2. Shiloh

Shiloh is a famous character in the Newbery Medal-winning novel Shiloh by Phyllis Reynolds Naylor. This book was inspired by true events, such as when Naylor ran into an abused Beagle during a trip to West Virginia. Fortunately, both Shiloh and the real Beagle were met with happy endings with new families.

The novel won several prestigious honors, and a movie adaptation was eventually filmed and released in 1996. Two sequels were made and released in 1999 and 2006, respectively.


3. Underdog/Shoeshine

Underdog is an animated cartoon series about a Beagle with superpowers. The show aired in 1964 and continued to air as a syndicated series until 1973. It was one of the first Saturday morning cartoons to air for children.

This television series follows a humble Beagle named Shoeshine Boy. Whenever villains appeared, he would dash into a telephone booth and transform into his heroic alter-ego, Underdog.

In 2007, a live-action reboot movie was released. Unfortunately, the film received a low approval rating. However, Underdog still has a loyal fanbase of people who enjoy nostalgic pop culture.


4. Brain

Brain is a character in the Inspector Gadget franchise. He’s a shy yet loyal Beagle that belongs to Penny, Inspector Gadget’s niece. Brain is extremely intelligent and helps Penny with Inspector Gadget’s missions.

Brain is also a master of disguise and often wears costumes to avoid getting detected by Inspector Gadget. His main role in the series is to try to keep Inspector Gadget safe secretly, but he often gets mistaken as a villain in many episodes.


5. Lou

Lou is the main character in the 2001 film Cats & Dogs. He’s an adorable Beagle puppy who initially overlooked and received his name after being called a “loser.” Throughout the first movie, Lou becomes increasingly involved with a secret dog agent organization and ends up saving the world.

Fans of the Cats & Dogs franchise watch Lou grow from a naïve puppy to a heroic adult dog through the first film and its sequel. Though the first movie received mixed reviews, there’s no denying that its CGI effects were advanced for its time, and the film received a few prestigious nominations.


6. Maymo

Maymo is one of the most famous real-life Beagles in the world. His Instagram account has over 187,000 followers, and his YouTube channel has an even more impressive 11.3 million subscribers. Maymo’s videos have millions of views and have been featured in major TV shows and websites.

Viewers will fall in love with Maymo’s silly personality. You can quickly lose track of time as you watch Maymo and his dog friends in comedic sketches and unscripted videos.


7. Marvel

Marvel is a wonderful Beagle that lives in France. He’s a brave Beagle who likes to skateboard and live an active lifestyle. His Instagram page is filled with photos and videos of him going on excursions, hanging out with his friends, and living his best life as a superhero dog.

10. Emily

Emily the Beagle was a one-of-a-kind, truly remarkable dog, who became famous for her ability to drive cars. She was instantly loved and adored by her social media followers who she inspired with her incredible talents. She was a loving and loyal family companion.

Emily sadly passed away from cancer at the age of 15 in April 2024. Emily’s memory lives on and continues to bring joy to her family and fans who can pay tribute to her legacy by visiting Emily’s memorial at the pet cemetery in Calabasas, California.
