On Jan. 27, a terrible person decided to burn down her pet store. That’s no surprise. Terrible people do terrible things all the time. But Gloria Eun Hye Lee is a special type of terrible person. She’s a horribly evil terrible person.
She tried to burn down her store with 27 puppies still inside.
Take a moment with that. Now take a breath and read the whole story, because it’s a whopper
Gloria Lee had a store called Prince and Princess in Las Vegas, according to a story in the Daily Mail. Here’s a nice picture of it:
Because she is a terrible person, she hatched a plan to burn the whole thing down. She got an accomplice, Kirk Bills, 27, and the two of them got cans of gasoline and went over to the store at 1 a.m. They entered the store. Bills poured gas around the store and the kennels while Lee collected files. Authorities say they know all this because surveillance footage captured everything. Lee and Bills — bonehead criminals.
The pair left through the back door, after Bills lit newspapers. The fire spread throughout the shop. The puppies — 27 of them, probably all from puppies mills — were in serious danger, but firefighters arrived in time to break in and rescue every last one of them. Also, the building’s sprinkler system kicked it. Lee and Bills must have forgotten about that.
Lee and Bills each face 31 criminal charges including first-degree arson, conspiracy, and burglary as well as 27 counts of attempted cruelty to animals. Lee faces decades in prison — one Fox 5 report said she could face 100 years.
Lee made a court appearance Wednesday and faced a “mob” of animal rights activists out front, who shouted at Lee and brought much-needed attention to this horrific case. We don’t yet know the motive for the crime, and Lee has surrendered her Korean passport. She is a three-time felon — bank theft, forgery, and escape. She also once had charges for “improper animal care” dropped.
The dogs have been placed in the care of the the Clark County animal shelter.
At the hearing, several protestors made their way into the court and screamed at Lee, calling her “despicable.”
“When you intentionally attempt to burn to death 27 puppies, what do you expect?” Gina Greisen, head of Nevada Voters for Animals, told the Daily Mail.
We’ll update you on the case as it progresses.
