There are a surprising number of dog-friendly hotels in the U.S. While the vast majority of hotels are not dog-friendly, you can find a dog-friendly hotel in many major cities. However, the exact policies at these hotels vary widely.

For instance, some hotels claim to be “dog-friendly,” but they may have very few dog-friendly rooms and only allow very small dogs. If you have a bigger dog, you’re often out of luck with many dog-friendly hotels.

In this article, we’ll list some of the biggest dog-friendly hotel chains in the U.S. If you’re looking for a dog-friendly hotel, consider checking to see if one of these chains has a hotel nearby.

The 12 Dog-Friendly Hotel Chains in The U.S.

1. Kimpton Hotels

Number of Hotels: Over 60

Fees?: None

Kimpton hotels are known for their upscale amenities. However, they’re also one of the most dog-friendly hotels out there. They are a great choice for anyone with a dog, especially if you don’t mind paying a bit extra. They have no extra fees for pets, but they do charge a bit more than other hotels per room.

They don’t have any policy for size, either. If your dog is well-behaved, they’re allowed in the hotel room. They also offer other amenities, like dog beds and treats.

2. Fairfield Inn by Marriott

Some offer practically no amenities, while others may offer dog walking and treats.

3. Homewood Suites by Hilton

However, each hotel has its own specific rules and fees. Most have size limitations, but what these are exactly varies.

Number of Hotels: Over 1,000 (U.S. & Canada)
Size Limit: Varies

This chain is global, as you might guess from its name. It’s typically considered a more budget-friendly hotel, though that doesn’t necessarily make it the cheapest option out there. They have over 1,000 locations worldwide that welcome pets, making them easy to find in most areas.

As with most hotels on this list, though, their pet policies vary from area to area. Most do have extra pet fees, a certain number of pet-friendly rooms, and size restrictions. Always check the specific hotel you’re considering.

7. IHG Hotels & Resorts

IHG owns several smaller brands, including Kimpton, which we discussed above as one of the best brands to stay at with a dog. However, they also own several other dog-friendly brands, including Staybridge Suites and Candlewood Suites. Most of their other brands do have size restrictions and extra fees, though.

Kimpton is probably your best option. However, if one isn’t available in the area you’re staying, one of these other brands may also be suitable.

8. Red Roof Inn

Red Roof Inn has pretty no-frills accommodations. However, many of their locations welcome dogs, and they’re much cheaper than most other options. If you just want somewhere to sleep, this hotel chain can be a great option. Most of their hotels accept pups, but it does depend on the exact hotel.

Most have pretty small size restrictions and some extra fees (though these tend to be lower than most).

9. Loews Hotels

This mid-range hotel brand from Marriott caters to extended stays with families. There are fewer of them in the United States, but they can be a great long-term stay option if you have pets. Most of them do welcome dogs, but some hotels are pet-free. Therefore, you need to check the specific hotel you plan to stay at.

Most of these hotels offer spacious accommodations and amenities like free breakfast. However, pet fees and size restrictions vary by location.

11. Extended Stay America

They provide a very homey atmosphere for you and your furry friend.

12. Hyatt Hotels Corporation

This hospitality giant encompasses many dog-friendly hotel brands, including Hyatt Place and Hyatt House. The individual properties can set their own policies, though, so some may have weight and breed restrictions. The vast majority of them do accept some canine companions, though some individual hotels may be pet-free for one reason or another.

Like many hotels on this list, you’ll need to check with your specific hotel to confirm their pet policy.

13. Choice Hotels

Cambria Hotel by Choice Hotels

Number of Hotels: Over 2,500
Size Limit: Varies
Fees?: Varies

Choice Hotels is a massive brand. They include many smaller brands, like Comfort Inn, Quality Inn, and Sleep Inn. All of these brands together equal over 2,500 locations across the U.S., with many of them accepting pets. Choice hotels are often very affordable, but the exact policies and fees can vary from brand to brand.

The exact size restrictions and pet fees also vary, so you’ll need to research each individual hotel to figure out if your dog is welcome. That said, thanks to their huge size, you can find these hotels just about anywhere.

Conclusion

There are many pet-friendly hotels out there that you can stay at with your pooch. Some of these are very dog-friendly without significant fees or weight restrictions. However, many hotels do have restrictions of some sort. The most common restrictions are based on size, where the hotel only allows dogs under a certain weight.

However, breed-specific restrictions also exist. Sometimes, breeds that are considered “aggressive” may not be allowed. Very few hotel brands have the same metrics across all of their hotels. In many cases, the exact restrictions and policies vary from hotel to hotel. Therefore, it’s important to research each hotel you consider staying at with your dog.

We recommend always calling ahead. Most hotels only have a certain number of pet-friendly rooms, and you’ll need to ensure one of these rooms is available and booked for you.
